 NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 10/25

 

Ottawa Senators vs. Washington Capitals

Someone needs to sit down with me and explain why the Ottawa Senators are getting so much love tonight. They opened as +125 underdogs, but have climbed to even money in some spots. I get that the Capitals are playing their second game in as many nights, but we are talking about the Senators, a below-average hockey team.

Linus Ullmark finally put together a decent start against the Flyers, but don’t let one strong start distract you from the fact that his xGSA is -4.5, one of the worst in the league. Washington is elite defensively and doesn’t allow a ton of shots against. With everyone trusting the Senators, we are going to trust the Capitals to take care of business on home ice.

Goalie of The Day: Jake Oettinger -DAL

I know what you’re thinking: Jake Oettinger has a 3.15 GAA and a .894 SV% this season and has no wins in his last three starts, why is his *THE* goalie to play tonight? Excellent question-- the Carolina Hurricanes are banged up, and that’s putting it lightly. Their blue line is in shambles, and I don’t see how they will be able to contain Dallas’ elite offence. It might not be sexy, but Oettinger can pick up the win and hit value, which is all we care about.

 

Honourable mention: Jakub Dobes - MTL

Jakub Dones is 4-0-0 this season with a 1.47 GAA and a .950 SV%. What more do you want from the kid? The Canucks don’t have a dangerous offence, while the Canadiens continue to pound the back of the net. Dobes is $7600 on DraftKings, and that is a gift we can’t ignore in a GPP.

 

Player of The Day: Dylan Larkin - DET

We have 11 games on the slate and so many elite names to choose from, which means people are going to forget about Dylan Larkin, but not us! The Red Wings have lost two in a row, but Larkin is still racking up the points. Of his 13 this season, TEN have come at home. The St. Louis Blues are not a very good team defensively, and I’ll gladly take Larkin and his reasonable price tag all day, every day.

 

Honourable mention: Auston Matthews - TOR

Auston Matthews is significantly better when he plays at home. He has four goals and 23 shots on net on home ice this year and has a fantastic matchup against the Sabres. William Nylander is questionable to play tonight, so that just means we’ll see even more of AM34. If you’re going to pay up for a superstar, it's him.

 

Value Play of The Day: Sean Walker - CAR

We need some discount options tonight, and Sean Walker is my favourite. He didn’t perform for us on Thursday, but we don’t give up after one unsuccessful try. Walker played 28 minutes against Colorado, and he’s going to see a ton of ice time against Dallas. His price tag has gone up to $4400, but it’s still reasonable enough to consider him in GPPs.
