We don’t have stats yet to work with, so most recommendations will be educated guesses. Don’t blow your (bankroll) load in the first week of action. NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 10/23

Utah Mammoth vs St. Louis Blues Prediction

The Utah Mammoth travel to St. Louis to take on the Blues for the first time this season. Utha isn’t elite on the road-- sporting a 1-2-0 record-- but that goes out the window tonight. This is a smash spot for them for a multitude of reasons.

The most notable reason is that Joel Hofer is getting the start for the Blues, and to put it nicely, he’s terrible. Yes, it’s a small sample size, but he has a 5.01 GAA and an .824 SV%. A beer league goalie would probably be a better option than him. The Mammoth can score goals and hold opponents to fewer than 24 shots per night. I like this matchup for them and the Money Line.

 

 

 

Seattle Kraken vs Winnipeg Jets Prediction

We will turn our attention to a player prop from this game. The Jets are a handful offensively, even more so on home ice. Their power play is elite, and they have no trouble finding the back of the net. Seattle is dealing with some injuries, and their strong start to the year has disappeared quicker than Evan Bouchard’s defensive game.

When you think of Kyle Connor, you think of a player who can easily score 40 goals. He scored three in the Jets’ first game of the season, but since then, he’s been an assist machine, racking up six in the last five games. Winnipeg is expected to score a bunch tonight, so let’s get bold and take Kyle Connor to record an assist tonight.

Goalie of The Day: Igor Shesterkin - NYR

Imagine having a 1.17 GAA and a .957 SV% but a 2-3-1 record. Igor Shesterkin has been beyond elite to start the season, but the Rangers have given him no support. They FINALLY scored a goal on home ice — *slow clap*—but this team needs to be much better. The San Jose Sharks have exactly ZERO wins on the year, and they can’t keep the puck out of their own net. Igor is a pricy option, but he’s the top dog when building your cash game lineups.

Player of The Day: Mark Scheifele - WPG

Mark Scheifele is a great player, but I did not have him with seven goals in six games. He has now scored in five straight, and I can’t for the life of me think that trend won’t continue against the Kraken. All those goals, and DraftKings still has him priced in the mid-$7 K range. Don’t make life complicated. Plug him into your lineup and build around him.

Value Play of The Day: Sean Walker - CAR

This isn’t an excellent spot for the Carolina Hurricanes, but it’s a smash spot for Sean Walker. Shayne Gostisbehere will not play tonight, and Jaccob Slavin has been placed on IR. Carolina is very thin on the back end and needs someone to step up. Walker only has one point on the season, but it’s not due to a lack of trying. He has 10 shots on goal and three blocked shots in the last two games. Not bad for a defenceman. He’s done all that on the road against some pretty good competition. He’s $3900 on DK and is a great candidate to hit value.
