Welcome to the Fantasy Alarm NHL Playbook. This is your one-stop shop for everything DFS related for tonight’s four-game slate. It might be a smaller Wednesday slate, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t good matchups to exploit. Let’s dive into the numbers and see what players we need to be targeting.

For the NHL Bets, we are going to start off very slowly. It’s a new year, and things around the league are going to be different. We don’t have stats yet to work with, so most recommendations are going to be educated guesses. Don’t blow your (bankroll) load in the first week of action. We got a whole year together, so let’s get to work. You can get every expect pick, including mine, right here.

Senators vs Sabres Prediction

This matchup is going to be very painful to watch. The Senators have been a mess defensively, and now they’ll have to truck along with their captain, Brady Tkachuk, who is expected to miss some time due to injury. Leevi Merilainen is confirmed to get his first start of the season, so that gives Linus Ullmark a night off and maybe a mental reset.

For the Sabres, who knows if this is the bottom of the barrel for them. They have scored TWO goals in THREE games. That’s 0.67 goals per game. They haven’t scored a power play goal, and the injury bug has already hit them pretty hard. It must be so hard being a Sabres fan, having to watch this poverty franchise night in and night out. I want to tell the fans that it gets better, but that would be a lie.

Back to the game, with so little offensive skill in this game, the Under is very much in play. It’s currently sitting at 6.5, but you can still find 6.0 across the board. We’ll drink some of the just at 6.5 just to be safe. I expect a boring, low-scoring affair.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks

Goalie of The Day: Karel Vejmelka -UTH

The goalie market isn’t great on this slate, but one player does stand out: Karel Vejmelka. It’s a small sample size, but he has a 1.99 GAA and a .918 SV%. The Flames are playing their second game in as many nights, so fatigue will set in for them in the second period. I expect the Mammoth to come out strong and win this game convincingly, which should help Vejmelka hit value.

Player of The Day: Tage Thompson - BUF

As bad as the Sabres are, Tage Thompson is going out there every game trying to do his best. He has 18 shots on goal in three games, but just one goal to show for it. The effort is there, but even if he doesn’t get the support, he’s doing enough to warrant his price tag. I like him as a single bullet option in all formats.

Value Play of The Day: Axel Sandin-Pellikka - DET

The points aren’t there for Axel Sandin-Pellikka, but he is playing a healthy amount of minutes, and that’s all we can ask for. Detroit swept its home-and-home with Toronto and is going to want to keep that momentum going at home against a very good Panthers team. At $3500 on DK, ASP doesn’t have to do a ton to hit value. He blocked three shots last game, so if he can repeat that performance and maybe get his first NHL point, he would be well worth his price tag.
