NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 1/14
Philadelphia Flyers vs Buffalo Sabres Prediction
The Buffalo Sabres have come back down to reality after their impressive winning streak in December, but they are still performing at a high level and playing great hockey. The Flyers have lost three consecutive games, with a combined score of 14-4. Their offense isn't strong, making it difficult for them to catch up when they fall behind. Recently, the Sabres have also received outstanding goaltending and have been solid at home throughout the season. We'll take them straight up on the Money Line and hope for a strong performance.

Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks
Goalie of the Day: Joey Daccord - SEA
Most of the goalies on this slate are either underperforming or too expensive for their value, so we need to be strategic. Seattle is facing the Devils, who have just ended their losing streak. While New Jersey has a lot of top talent, they have struggled to score this season, averaging even fewer goals than Seattle. Injuries have contributed to this issue, but it remains noteworthy. Additionally, we can't rely on Jacob Markstrom, who has been struggling to stop even the easiest shots. Regardless of who starts for Seattle, we’re getting great value at their price point.
Honourable Mention: Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen
We discussed the impressive performance of the Sabres and the struggles of the Flyers right now. UPL has a record of 7-1-0 at home with a save percentage of .923, so why isn't he considered the top goalie on the slate? He has allowed three goals in each of his last two games, and since Philadelphia doesn’t generate many shots, it’s challenging for him to provide value without securing a win. While he is a solid option, in terms of value, he ranks behind Grubauer and Daccord.
Player of the Day: Brady Tkachuk - OTT
The Ottawa Senators currently sit at the bottom of the Atlantic Division, similar to how the Titanic rests at the bottom of the ocean. While there is still time to turn the season around, they need to start stringing together some wins. The Rangers are struggling, especially at home. With Igor Shesterkin out, Jonathan Quick has been thrust into the starting role, but his performance has been challenging. He hasn’t won a game since November 7th! Ottawa will have opportunities, so Brady Tkachuk could potentially have a big night.
Honourable Mention: Tomas Hertl - VGK
The Golden Knights have moved Mitch Marner to center, which has shifted Tomas Hertl to the third line. At first glance, this may not seem ideal, but it could actually be a blessing in disguise. Hertl is the primary shooter on his line and is receiving very favorable matchups. The Kings lack the depth to effectively cover all their players and will need to focus on Jack Eichel and Marner. This situation might provide Hertl with even more space to maneuver. He scored five points in the last game, and while we shouldn't expect him to replicate that performance tonight, he still has the potential to deliver value.
Value Play of the Day: Berkly Catton - SEA
We tried Shane Wright a few nights ago, and that didn’t work out, but that Seattle third line is clicking, and Berkly Catton is doing his part. He has four goals in as many games and is consistently seeing 14 minutes a night. The Devils aren’t good defensively, and his line will get favourable matchups. His $2900 DraftKings price tag is a gift, so plug him into your lineup if you need a bargain option with upside.
