NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 1/11

It's been a good week of NHL action and despite the NFL playoffs going on today, there's a ton of hockey on tap. Let's close things out with some wins!

Edmonton Oilers vs. Chicago Blackhawks Prediction: Saturday, January 11th;

The Edmonton Oilers are coming off an ugly loss and they have a tomato can opponent today to beat up on, the Chicago Blackhawks. 

This season, to no surprise, the Blackhawks are bad on defense and it allows opposing teams to reach for all of their offensive props. So far this year, the Blackhawks are allowing 61.51 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fifth-worst in the league. 

A lot of shot attempts lead to shots on goal and when we're talking shots on goal for the Oilers, we're talking Leon Draisaitl. Over his last 10 games, Draisaitl has a team-high 40 shots on goal, while seeing time on the second forward line and the first power-play unit. 

That has led to at least three shots on goal in seven of his last 10 games, putting him in a spot to hit this every night. 

 

Minnesota Wild vs. San Jose Sharks Prediction: Saturday, January 11th

With Kirill Kaprizov still out for the Wild, they need someone else to step up and bring the offensive pressure, which means we turn to Matt Boldy. 

Kaprizov has been out since 12/27/24, and in those seven games, Boldy has stepped up to hit at least four shots on goal in six of them. While a goal is certainly on the table versus the Sharks, I want to go with the safe route of shots on goal. 

Over the last two weeks, the Sharks have allowed 67.25 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is dead last in the NHL. Boldy is their top shooter right now and if the Wild want to bounce back after a rough 6-1 loss the other night, they need to get the offense going.
