NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 4/11

Capitals vs. Sabres Prediction

To start off my NHL predictions today, I’m going back to the well again with the Buffalo Sabres as they’ve been stacking up the green for us when it comes to game totals. As they hit play at home tonight, they are now 23-16-1 on unders this season.

That should continue again given the matchup and the fact they’re allowing just 2.6 goals per game on home ice in the past 45 days. On the Washington side, things are encouraging as well as they’ve posted just 2.4 goals per game over the past 45 days on the road and they have Charlie Lindgren starting in the cage.

Lindgren has been by far the Caps best goalie this season and is coming off of a 42-save performance against the Red Wings. I think both teams try to lock into their respective games tonight and while it could be close on the total of 6 goals, I just don’t see it going over given the trends.

Flyers vs. Rangers Prediction

I don’t say this as a hyperbole when I say that the Flyers couldn’t win a game right now if their lives depended on it. They have been far and away one of the worse teams down the stretch this season going from a lock for the playoffs to missing it in the blink of an eye.

They have lost 8 straight games heading into tonight’s matchup with the best team in the East standings wise, and during that stretch, they’ve been outscored 42 to 20. On the other side you have a Rangers team trying to lock in the top spot in the East at home where they are 28-10 straight up and have won 8 of their last 10 games. Obviously, this is a game I want to target with today’s NHL picks.

I am almost shocked that New York is just -200 on the moneyline and although I will not be betting on that, it should be -300 or higher according to the model. Jonathan Quick will get the start for the Rangers tonight and that helps their chances as well; the veteran goaltender has won 5 straight starts and looked great in the process. Give me the Rangers to win this one in regulation at much better odds and prepare for a beatdown.

Red Wings vs. Penguins Prediction

Let’s select another game for today’s NHL best bets with actual meeting as this game is basically an elimination game the way the projections predict. So, here’s some player props for this crucial game.

The Detroit Red Wings have been in free fall on defense for a couple months now and that data is alarming. In the past 45 days on the road, the Red Wings have allowed 36 shots on goal per game. It's hard to see that turning around as in the same time period on home ice, the Penguins have been in attack mode with 34.5 shots on goal. The main issue is which Penguin to target for shots on goal as they pertain to NHL props.

It's tricky, so here is a pair to wager on! Michael Bunting is the first name to look at as he has 14 shots in his last 3 games for Pittsburgh and has a good history against Detroit. With his number at just 2.5 tonight, let’s lock it in. Then there is Bryan Rust, who plays with Sidney Crosby and on the top powerplay unit. He hasn’t topped his total as much lately, but at plus money, I am willing to take a shot on it!
