NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 3/9

Calgary Flames at Florida Panthers Prediction

Here we go again with the Panthers and their game total! Its been one of my favorite bets this season as Florida is locking teams down on defense and Sergei Bobrovsky is having arguably his best season ever with a 2.28 GAA in his age 35 season. As a whole the Panthers defense is allowing just 1.9 goals per game over the past 45 days on home ice and overall on the season the team has gone under in 18 of 30 games.

On the Flames side they too have an elite defense of late allowing just 2.3 goals per game on the road and are led by Jacob Markstrom who despite the reports was not traded yesterday and will continue to wear a Flames sweater. The Calgary goalie is also having an elite season with a 2.62 GAA and is 2nd in the NHL in goals saved above expected.

Both offenses can score goals but that their cores they play great defense and for this matchup today I have to lean the under and hope that trends continue.

  • Pick: Flames & Panthers Under 6 Goals (-105 on DraftKings)

St. Louis Blues at New York Rangers Prediction

Time now to pick on the mushy middle teams and that is the St. Louis Blues today. They're just a bad team on the road this season with a record of 14-19 and a goal differential of -16 and I don't expect those number to turn around during a trip to Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers are one of the top dogs in the East this season no debating that but they also defend home ice better than most with a 21-8 record straight up and a +34 goal differential. Much of the success is due to the goaltender tandem of Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick as the Rangers have allowed just 2.1 goals per game on home ice over the past 45 days while scoring 3.3 goals per game on offense I should add.

This bet though really comes down to looking at the value on the board and for the Money Line its just not there today and the Puck Line scares me a bit as the Rangers are 14-15 ATS on home ice this season. So instead I will do something I have done many times and split it up the middle with a 60 minute Money Line bet on the Rangers to win in regulation.

Dallas Stars at Los Angeles Kings Prediction

When it comes to the Stars I think you already know where this pick is going! They continue to be the most fun team on the ice this season as defense is optional and their offense is loaded with studs lighting the lamp. This has caused of course a string of game totals going over this season as no team as tipped the total more than the Stars this season at 37-27.

The Dallas offense shows no signs of slowing down either as they've scored 3.7 goals per game on the road over the past 45 days. They face a Kings team that plays good defense but I don't think they'll be able to completely slow down the Stars. Cam Talbot is expected to start for the Kings and that's even better for our over as he's regressed quite a bit since the All-Star break.

The Kings on the offensive side are neither good or bad, but at home they are a tad over league average scoring 3.3 goals per game over the past 45 days in action. All of this adds up to a game going over but we're getting a treat from the books as well because the line is at an even 6 goals which is the lowest I have seen a Stars game in forever.

  • Pick: Stars & Kings Over 6 Goals (-110 on Caesars)
