Canucks vs. Oilers Prediction: Tuesday, May 14th

As we get set for Game 4 in this Western Conference Semifinals, I can’t help but wonder how the Oilers are in the position they are of being down 2 games to 1! The easy answer is that Stuart Skinner isn’t keeping up his end of the bargain in net, and that is true as he ranks second-to-last of 26 goaltenders these playoffs when it comes to goals saved above expected.

But overall, the Oilers have controlled play in the series, so let’s break it down. In Game 3, the Oilers had an xGF (expected goals for) of 5.91, which is just ridiculous for the playoffs as they also outshot the Canucks 45-18 and their xGF was 2.89. You just can’t play that way and expect to win games this time of year, especially over a 7-game series, which it looks like this series may go.

Assuming the Oilers continue their dominance, which I expect them to, then they ought to even the series tonight at home. I also like the goaltending change to Calvin Pickard tonight as he has been better than Skinner analytically. This is all without even talking about Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and company who can wreck a game on their own. Give me the Oilers tonight on the regulation moneyline to improve the price tag on the wager for tonight.
