NHL Best Bets for February 13th

Colorado Avalanche at Washington Capitals

While it hasn't been easy going for the Avalanche on this east coast road trip this team is way too good to be held down forever! Tonight they'll attempt to end their 4 game losing streak in the nation's capital against Washington and I have a pretty good feeling they will! The Capitals are .500 straight up on the Money Line on home ice this season but have dropped 7 of their last 10 games heading into tonight to go along with their season goal differential of -34! This is a below average team that is living in tight margins and that kind of play is just not sustainable long term or against a Colorado team that is scoring 3.7 goals per game on the road dating back New Years day. The Capitals are only scoring 2.6 goals per game at home during that span as well. On top of all of that the Corsi analytics are slanted heavily in the direction of Colorado at 51.95%, 9th in the NHL compared to Washington's at 26th in the league at 46.61%. The Money Line will be chalked up though so I will instead take the Avs to win in regulation at much better odds.

Pick: Colorado Avalanche 60-Min Money Line (-130 on BetMGM)

Carolina Hurricanes at Dallas Stars

Someday this trend might finally regress but until that day happens I am riding the over in Dallas Stars home games! In 26 games in the big D this season the total has hit the over a staggering 21 times and in this matchup against Carolina who can bring the heat I don't think I will be fading the trends tonight. The Hurricanes have scored 4.5 goals per game dating back to January 1st on the road and have gone over in half of their road games this season. Many of those under games came early in the season though and weren't the handy work of the goaltending tandem that is going right now. I expect Pyotr Kochetkov to get the nod tonight although its unconfirmed as of now, while he is the better of the two goalies right now he will have his work cut out for him as the Stars have scored 4.12 goals per game on home ice this season, the 2nd highest rate in the league. The Carolina defense will make it tight but with Dallas it seems to never really matter so give me the over tonight and let's keep riding this train.

Pick: Hurricanes & Stars Over 6.5 Goals (-105 on FanDuel)

Anaheim Ducks at Montreal Canadiens

Last major pick here on today's NHL bets belongs to a player prop in this meeting between two sub par teams! Just because each teams isn't very good doesn't mean there isn't an edge and there certainly is one in the prop market. The Ducks are allowing 34.8 shots on goal per game on the road over the past month and have been generous all season long as well. Enter the kid Cole Caufield who is a star in the making and the whole offense for Montreal these days it seems. His line is 3.5 shots which is high but fair considering he has topped this number in 9 of the last 15 games and he has averaged 3.6 shots per game on the season. I think the Habs offense hums tonight and Caufield will soar past this number with little resistance.

Pick: Cole Caulfield Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (-115 on Caesars)

Buffalo Sabres Money Line vs Los Angeles Kings (+120 on BetMGM)
