Welcome to the NHL DFS Power Play. You will see three tiered options for Yahoo! DFS, DraftKings, and FanDuel every night that there are three or more games. Otherwise, you are still getting the same great playbook, the chat is still open and monitored with all of your questions.

Also, don't forget you also have the power of the lineup generator to help you build out your winning lineup tonight. Have fun and let's make some money together tonight!

Colorado Avalanche  Vs. Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks are a garbage team, so we are going to want to have a decent amount of exposure to Colorado. This game has the highest total of any game, so expect ownership to be high.

Let’s start with The Avalanche’s top line of Gabriel Landeskog, Mikko Rantanen, and Logan O’Connor. All three are great options, especially O’Connor and his low price tag. He’s not seeing any power play time, but we can still use him in all formats. Rantanen's position has been adjusted on DraftKings, so you’ll be able to use him as a center there, but not on FanDuel, which should surprise absolutely no one. There’s lots of value at the center position, so FanDuel would be the best place to go with an O’Connor-Rantanen mini-stack.

On the blue line, Cale Makar is expensive but is worth the price tag. He’s going to see a lot of ice time and is going to be counted on to produce.

On the flip side, The Canucks do have some value to target. Bo Horvat is going to be a great option because Colorado's depth is going to be challenged. His $5K price tag on DK is soft enough to use him as a single bullet.

If you want to get extra creative, Jason Dickinson and Conor Garland are both affordable enough to play in a GPP. The risk is there with Dickinson--who only has one goal on the season-- but he’s $2600 and is in a price spot to succeed. The entire line can be considered in a GPP if you really want to go contrarian.

Chicago Blackhawks Vs. Seattle Kraken

This game has all the makings of an absolute barn burner. Vegas has the total set at 5.5, but that could go over before the second period even ends. Both teams have below-average goaltending, and both teams don’t defend very well. You’ll want some exposure to this game too.

For Chicago, Kirby Dach and Patrick Kane are where I want to be spending my money. Dach-- who only has two points in his last ten games-- continues to be affordable and is still seeing top power-play minutes. Kane has 50 shots in the last ten games, so the volume is there, and goals could be scored in bunches.

Seth Jones continues to be money in NHL DFS, and while his price tag is up there, there’s enough value to be able to fit him in. If you need to save some salary, Connor Murphy has finished with three blocked shots in four of the last five games. He’s not going to get you very many points, but if he hits the shot blocked bonus, that could be enough for him to hit value.

If Marc-Andre Fleury gets the start, he’s an option to consider. He’s been garbage most of the season, but Seattle’s offense isn’t great, and he’s priced down at $7500 on DK. The risk is there, but the price tag is low enough to go down that route.

For Seattle, Jordan Eberle is the player to consider. He has ten points in as many games and continues to be the Kraken’s best player on most nights. The shot volume isn’t there, so that does limit his upside, but for $5200 on DK, that price tag is too low to just ignore. If you need an affordable center to pair him with, Alex Wennberg joins him on the top line and top power-play unit.

Washington Capitals Vs. Los Angeles Kings

This is the game I expect to be very low-scoring. Teams traveling out west tend to struggle, and I think Anze Kopitar will be able to shut down Alex Ovechkin and company.

If you are going with the Kings, you’ll want to target Philip Danault and Andreas Athanasiou. The duo plays together on the second power-play unit, and neither one is very expensive. For Danault, he has 18 shots on goal in the last four games, which is a high volume for a third-line center.

On Defense, as much as I love Kale Clague, I think this is an Alex Edler kind of night. With Ovechkin in town, the top pairing of Edler and Matt Roy will be on the ice a lot. Both will be expected to block shots, and either one can hit the shot block bonus. Edler is the veteran, so I trust him in this spot. If salary is an issue, Clague is $2500 on DK and continues to see top power-play minutes.

In goal, If Jonathan Quick gets the start, that’s who I would play. It’s not an ideal matchup, but the veteran has played better than Cal Petersen, and right now, he’s just rolling. I don’t like rostering a goalie against the future greatest goalscorer in NHL history, but it is what it is.

If we’re looking at the Capitals, Alex Ovechkin is the only player I like. You can try and target some value in Connor McMichael, but the matchup on paper isn’t good, as as mentioned earlier, teams from the East don’t have a ton of success out West. This Washington lineup isn’t very good, and I expect them to struggle a lot. Ovechkin is matchup proof, but at his price tag, he needs to hit the shot bonus-- something he’s failed to do in three of the last five games-- and score a goal. Not impossible, but too much risk for my liking.

If you don’t believe in Kings scoring goals, Ilya Samsonov is an option to consider. Washington is on a back-to-back, which means they are going to be giving up a lot of shots. If Samsonov can hit the save bonus, and stay under three goals, he should be able to hit value without picking up the win.
