We have two games today with some high-flying offensive teams. Buffalo and Boston will be popular, but can we find some value elsewhere? Can the Toronto Maple Leafs hand Boston a fourth loss in a row? Can the Carolina Hurricanes slow down Buffalo’s top line? You can build daily fantasy hockey lineups on DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo Fantasy for Friday, December 16th, but before you build those NHL daily fantasy lineups, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS projections, the NHL Value Finder, and the NHL DFS lineup generator. Let's now take a closer look at the daily fantasy hockey top plays for tonight's NHL DFS slate.

Carolina Hurricanes Vs. Buffalo Sabres

Players to target: Sebastian Aho, Jordan Staal, Martin Necas, Seth Jarvis, Brent Burns, Brady Skjei, Tage Thompson, Dylan Cozens, Jeff Skinner, Victor Olofsson, Rasmus Dahlin, Owen Powers, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

Carolina is heading into Buffalo looking to build off their win from last night. Buffalo is a fun hockey team to watch, but they don’t play defense. They may be able to score goals, but they can’t be considered a real threat until they figure out how to keep the puck out of their own net.

Sebastian Aho, Martin Necas, and Brent Burns are the three main players I’m looking to target. They have a pretty decent matchup on paper and you can afford all three in one lineup. If you need to save some salary, Jordan Staal, Seth Jarvis, and Brady Skjei are options to consider.

On the Buffalo side, It’s hard to ignore Tage Thompson and the top line. Thompson is unstoppable and he gets to face a Carolina team that is playing their second game in as many nights. Victor Olofsson has been really hot of late, so you could get some extra exposure by playing him. Rasmus Dahlin is an obvious choice tonight, but if you can’t afford him Own Powers could be a nice sneaky play.

I don’t love Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, but someone has to win this hockey game. Antti Raanata is a good goalie, but I’m not comfortable betting on him on a back-to-back. UPL is 13-5-2 this season despite having a .900 SV% and is only $7300 on DraftKings. He’s worth a shot in a GPP.

Boston Bruins Vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

Players to target: Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Taylor Hall, Pavel Zacha, Brad Marchand, Charlie McAvoy, Matt Grzelcyk, Linus Ullmark, Alex Kerfoot, Michael Bunting, Calle Jarnkrok, Mark Giordano, T.J. Brodie, Ilya Samsonov.

As a Habs fan, there’s nothing I love more than Watching the Boston Bruins lose, but tonight, my rooting interest is making sure that Toronto does win. Boston has lost three games in a row and is going to want to secure a win before heading into the All-Star break.

Boston's big three (Patrice Bergeron, Brand Marchand, and David Pastrnak) are always going to be popular, but I’ll probably stay away from Pastrnak due to his price tag. Brad Marchand has been talking a lot of smacks lately, so maybe that energy will translate to some goals on the ice.

If you want to target Boston, look at David Krejci, Pavel Zacha, and Taylor Hall for some value. Charlie McAvoy is a good defenceman to target because he’s probably going to be on the ice a lot, and good things happen when you play a lot.

For Toronto, I don’t see them scoring a ton of goals against Linus Ullmark, so I’ll look at some value plays like Michael Bunting, Alex Kerfoot and Calle Jarnkrok. All three players are cheap and can hit value with just a point and a couple of shots on goal.

The real value is on the back end with Mark Giordano and T.J. Brodie. Both defencemen can block shots and I expect them to be doing a lot of that tonight. Even if I’m playing Ullmark in goal, I’ll still have one, or both, of those defencemen.

The total for his game opened at 5.5 but has since moved to 6.0. I don’t think we see a super high-scoring game, so both goalies can be an option tonight depending on who you’re stacking. Ullmark is my preferred choice, but if you are fading the Bruins, don’t be scared to play Ilya Samsonov at his very affordable $7600 price tag.
