Welcome to another edition of the Fantasy Hockey Injury Report. Every week, we will discuss some key injuries around the league and how they may affect your fantasy hockey team.  It’s never easy to deal with the injury bug, but it doesn’t have to be the demise of your fantasy hockey team. Let’s take a look at who’s dealing with what this week!

Week 11 NHL Fantasy Hockey Injury Report

Seth Jones - Chicago Blackhawks - Shoulder

The Chicago Blackhawks placed defenceman Seth Jones on IR due to a shoulder injury. This is a huge blow to the team but also for fantasy owners who were hopeful that Jones could turn his season around. There is no timetable for his return, so for now, it would be wise to stash him and wait for another update. If you can’t hold onto him, there’s nothing wrong with letting him go and looking for a replacement on the waiver wire.

Cale Makar - Colorado Avalanche - Lower-body

Cale Makar has missed the last three games and is still considered day-to-day. He missed two games to start December but was able to return. That didn’t last very long, as he was only able to play four games. The team will want to give their elite defenceman all the time in the world to heal and come back at 100%, so there’s a chance we won’t see him at all before the Christmas break. For now, we need to take a wait-and-see approach.

Jake Oettinger - Dallas Stars - Lower-body

Jake Oettinger is on pace to miss his third straight hockey game due to a lower-body injury. He left the game against Ottawa back on December 15th and hasn’t been able to return to action. The team has announced that he is week-to-week, so it sounds like he could miss some time. We know that he won’t see any action this week, so it allows fantasy owners to look for a replacement and wait for an update next week. Right now, it’s unlikely we see him again in 2023.

Ville Husso - Detroit Red WingsLower-body

The Detroit Red Wings have placed goalie Ville Husso on IR and there is no timetable for his return. After starting the year off well, Husso has put up some terrible numbers. He has a 3.53 GAA and a .893 SV%, so this might be the push fantasy owners need to drop him. I get that allowing a “staring” goalie to be dropped is tough, but at this point, he’s just hurting every team he’s on. There is no reason to hold onto dead weight.

Carter Hart - Philadelphia Flyers - illness

Carter Hart is not expected to be in the lineup as he continues to deal with an illness. He hasn’t made a start since December 9th, so this is really bad timing to get sick. It doesn’t sound like anything too serious, but Hart is a good goalie who managers are counting on. Let’s hope he can make a start over the weekend or, at worst, serve as the backup.

Logan Thompson - Vegas Golden Knights - Upper-body

We might as well keep the trend going with goalies being out of the lineup, Logan Thompson was pulled from his last start and the team announced that he isn’t going to make his next start due to an upper-body injury. Vegas is already without Adin Hill, so if Thompson were to miss an extended period of time, this would be a problem. For now, there is no need to panic. We just wait for another update and go from there. Vegas is in action Saturday afternoon against Florida, so we’ll get an update on his condition before that.
