Week 14 Monday Night Football Predictions

Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans – LOWER Than 13.5 Rush Attempts

Rooting against Derrick Henry is always risky. However, we’re doing it tonight because the game script and situation suggest a smaller workload for the Tennessee Titans’ running back. With the Miami Dolphins favored by two touchdowns at home, this spread would suggest the Titans having to throw more – especially in the second half – to play catch-up while trailing. Tennessee may try to establish the run early with Henry, but that gameplan also may be thrown out if/when Miami builds a lead with their quick-strike offense.

This is usually how it goes for Miami’s opponents when they get down by multiple scores. Check out the carry totals for opposing lead backs in the Dolphins’ six double-digit wins this season: 10, 7, 10, 12, 19, 11. More often than not, every team has been forced to abandon the run, resulting in lesser workloads for lead ball-carriers. Meanwhile, in the Titans’ eight losses this season, Henry has fewer than 13.5 rush attempts in five of those eight games while averaging 13.8 carries per loss. Diving a bit deeper, Henry has been held to 13 carries or less in all five Tennessee losses by at least a touchdown. Then we have to factor in Tyjae Spears taking away some carries and snaps overall in this Tennessee backfield – especially in obvious passing downs as the better receiving back.

Dontayvion Wicks, Green Bay Packers – HIGHER Than 31.5 Receiving Yards

Dontayvion Wicks has been a surprising contributor in his rookie season with the Green Bay Packers. The 5th-round pick out of Virginia has mostly been the Packers’ fourth wideout, but he’ll step into a bigger role tonight with Christian Watson sidelined. In the first three weeks of this season with Watson out, Wicks played about 60% of the snaps and had 40+ receiving yards in two of those three games. We should expect him to take on the bulk of Watson’s snaps and targets tonight as his build and skillset are better suited to replace that production on the outside than Green Bay’s other options.

Either way, Wicks has carved out a meaningful role in this offense lately even with Watson healthy. He has at least 40 receiving yards in four straight games with 4+ targets in five straight. That’s a nice baseline of production before we factor in any potential additional targets. The New York Giants pass defense has struggled in recent games and Jordan Love should find Wicks enough for him to surpass 31.5 yards.
