Lions vs. Panthers DFS Picks & SNF Playbook, 10/4: DraftKings & FanDuel
Published: Oct 04, 2026
The Detroit Lions head to Charlotte on Sunday night to face the Carolina Panthers in a matchup that features two offenses capable of putting points on the board. Detroit enters the game at 2-1 and has been remarkably consistent offensively, scoring 31 points in each of its first three games. Carolina, meanwhile, is 1-2 and has shown plenty of passing-game production behind Bryce Young.
With a limited player pool and every snap carrying extra weight, the key will be identifying which players offer the best combination of volume, touchdown equity, matchup upside, and salary-based value. In this breakdown, we’ll dig into the top captain options, mid-range plays, salary-saving values, and potential fades, while also examining the different game-script scenarios that could make or break your Rams-Broncos showdown lineups.
Lions vs. Panthers DFS Picks & Preview: Sunday Night Football, 10/4
For Detroit, the biggest advantage is the combination of Jared Goff and Jahmyr Gibbs. Goff has thrown for 802 yards and eight touchdowns without an interception through three games, while Gibbs is coming off a monster performance in which he produced 164 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns. If Detroit can establish Gibbs early, it should create favorable passing situations for Goff and open up opportunities downfield.
The Panthers' biggest challenge is their secondary. Carolina placed starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson on injured reserve, leaving the defense short-handed against a Lions passing attack that has been one of the league's most efficient. That could give Jameson Williams and Detroit's other receivers opportunities to make explosive plays, particularly if Carolina has trouble generating pressure on Goff.
Carolina does have a major advantage of its own. Young has thrown for 939 yards through three games, and Detroit's defense has allowed 979 passing yards and nine passing touchdowns. The Lions have been able to pressure opposing quarterbacks, but if Young has enough time to work, Carolina should have opportunities to attack a Detroit secondary that has given up big plays.
The Panthers will also need to keep the game close early. Falling behind by multiple scores would force Young into a high-volume passing script against a Lions pass rush that has already recorded 12 sacks. Detroit, on the other hand, would love to play from ahead and let Gibbs, Goff and its offensive line control the pace.
Overall, Detroit looks like the more complete team and has the matchup advantage on offense. Carolina's passing game makes the Panthers dangerous enough to keep this competitive, but the injuries in the secondary are particularly concerning against a Lions offense that has been so consistent. My prediction is Lions 31, Panthers 27, with Detroit covering a 3.5-point spread in a game that has a strong chance to become a shootout.

NFL Weather: Lions vs. Panthers SNF, October 4th
Weather could play a noticeable role in Sunday night’s Lions-Panthers matchup at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Rain is expected to linger through much of the day, with showers easing somewhat around the 8:20 pm ET kickoff. Temperatures are projected to be around 65°F, with only a light 2–5 mph northeast wind, so wind should not significantly affect the passing or kicking games. The main concern will be the wet playing surface, which could make footing and ball security more important and potentially encourage both teams to lean on their running games and shorter throws.
Lions vs. Panthers Injuries: Sunday Night Football Week 4
The Detroit Lions enter Sunday night with two notable injury concerns. Offensive lineman Ben Bartch has been ruled out with a foot injury after missing all three practices this week. Cornerback D.J. Reed is listed as questionable with a rib injury after being limited throughout the week, although Detroit has indicated he is expected to play. Edge rusher DJ Wonnum, who had been dealing with a back issue, practiced fully on Thursday and Friday and does not have a game designation.
The Carolina Panthers have more significant personnel concerns, particularly at wide receiver and along the offensive line. Wide receiver Xavier Legette has been ruled out with a knee injury and was subsequently placed on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least the next four games. Left guard Damien Lewis is also out with an elbow injury. Carolina also has several players listed as questionable. Wide receiver Jalen Coker is dealing with a quadriceps injury, while defensive tackles Cam Jackson (knee) and Lee Hunter (foot) are questionable. Right tackle Monroe Freeling is also questionable because of a concussion, although he practiced fully on Friday.
NFL Sunday Night Football DFS Picks: MVP/Captain
Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Detroit Lions - DraftKings: $12,000 | FanDuel: $13,800
Gibbs is an elite play, having been heavily involved in Detroit's offense through three games, producing 463 scrimmage yards and six touchdowns on 83 touches, including 18 receptions on 21 targets.
His recent production makes the upside even more obvious. Gibbs scored 41.4 PPR points against the Jets last week on 20 carries for 99 yards and two touchdowns plus seven catches for 75 yards and another score. No player in the league, let alone on the slate, has more upside than Gibbs.
Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, Detroit Lions - DraftKings: $11,000 | FanDuel: $12,600
After a relatively quiet Week 3 in which he caught four passes for 19 yards and a touchdown, St. Brown still enters this matchup with an excellent season line of 23 receptions, 225 yards, and five touchdowns on 35 targets.
The matchup is especially appealing because Carolina just lost starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson to injured reserve. St. Brown has run roughly half of his routes from the slot this season, where he could see favorable coverage against Carolina's reshuffled secondary.
Carolina has actually defended the pass reasonably well on a per-attempt basis, so this isn't necessarily a matchup where St. Brown is guaranteed to pile up a ton of yards. However, Detroit's offense has scored 31 points in each of its first three games, and St. Brown's elite usage gives him an excellent floor.
Jared Goff, QB, Detroit Lions – DraftKings: $10,000 | FanDuel: $12,200
Goff has been excellent through three games, completing 70.6% of his passes for 802 yards, eight touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He has also thrown at least two touchdown passes in every game, while Detroit has scored 31 points in each contest.
Carolina's defense has been better against the pass than against the run, but injuries to starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson have weakened the secondary considerably. That creates a favorable situation for Goff and his receiving weapons, particularly Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.
Bryce Young, QB, Carolina Panthers – DraftKings: $9,800 | FanDuel: $11,800
After exploding for 37.4 fantasy points in Week 1 and 30.1 in Week 2, Young came back down to earth against Cleveland in Week 3, finishing with 291 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He still enters Sunday night with 939 passing yards and 7 touchdowns to just 2 interceptions through three games.
The Lions have surrendered an NFL-high 299.3 passing yards per game, and opposing quarterbacks have repeatedly produced big fantasy totals against them. Detroit has also allowed the ninth-highest yards per attempt and has struggled defending deep passes, which fits Young's aggressive downfield style.
NFL Sunday Night Football DFS Picks: Core Plays
Chuba Hubbard, RB, Carolina Panthers – DraftKings: $9,400 | FanDuel: $10,600
Hubbard played roughly 84% of Carolina's offensive snaps in Week 3 and handled 23 touches for 110 total yards, demonstrating the workload that gives him a dependable fantasy floor. Through three games, he has 41 carries for 184 yards plus nine receptions for 77 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Detroit has allowed the highest explosive-run rate in the league, along with the 11th-highest rushing success rate and third-most yards before contact per attempt. That gives Hubbard a realistic opportunity to produce chunk gains if Carolina can create running lanes.
Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Carolina Panthers – DraftKings: $9,000 | FanDuel: $9,400
McMillan is coming off a disappointing Week 3 performance, catching just 2 of 5 targets for 17 yards, but the matchup sets up much better this week. McMillan has an 18% target share, four red-zone targets, and five deep targets through three games, giving him multiple paths to a big fantasy performance.
The Lions have allowed nearly 300 passing yards per game, and they have been particularly vulnerable to perimeter receivers. Detroit has allowed the sixth-most yards per target and ninth-most fantasy points per opportunity to perimeter wideouts, which is exactly where McMillan does much of his work.
Jalen Coker, WR, Carolina Panthers – DraftKings: $7,400 | FanDuel: $8,200
Coker suffered a quad injury in Week 3, did not practice Wednesday, and was limited Thursday and Friday. He is officially questionable, although he has a decent chance to suit up.
If Coker is active, the matchup is excellent. Detroit has been extremely vulnerable through the air, allowing more than 325 passing yards per game through the first three weeks. Coker has also been heavily involved when healthy, with a 26% target share and 18 catches for 222 yards and two touchdowns entering Week 4.
NFL Sunday Night Football DFS Picks: Mid-Tier Plays
Jameson Williams, WR, Detroit Lions – DraftKings: $7,000 | FanDuel: $7,800
Despite playing a major role in Detroit's offense and running just two fewer routes than St. Brown, Williams hasn't translated that playing time into consistent fantasy production. The problem is target volume. Williams currently has only a 10% target share, with zero red-zone targets, and Carolina has actually been good at limiting perimeter receivers.
The matchup offers some reason for optimism. Carolina has lost both starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson to injured reserve, potentially creating opportunities for Williams' elite speed on the outside. Detroit's offense has also scored 31 points in each of its first three games, so there should be enough scoring potential for Williams to break out.
Sam LaPorta, TE, Detroit Lions – DraftKings: $6,600 | FanDuel: $7,200
Through three games, LaPorta has caught 14 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown on 19 targets. His production hasn't been spectacular, but he's seeing enough consistent involvement in a Detroit passing game that has produced 31 points in every game so far.
The matchup gives LaPorta a good opportunity to bounce back from last week's modest three-catch, 44-yard performance. Carolina allowed Cleveland tight end Harold Fannin Jr. to catch nine passes for 51 yards and two touchdowns in Week 3, and a potentially high-scoring game could force Jared Goff to throw frequently.
NFL Sunday Night Football DFS Picks: Value Plays
Darren Waller, TE, Carolina Panthers – DraftKings: $4,400 | FanDuel: $6,000
Detroit has allowed 351 receiving yards and six touchdowns to tight ends through three games, both league-leading figures.
The main concern is target competition. If Coker plays, he could reclaim a significant portion of the targets that went to Waller last week. Still, Waller has been efficient with his opportunities, and he has posted a 13.1% target share over the last two games while receiving two red-zone targets.
Isaac TeSlaa, WR, Detroit Lions – DraftKings: $4,200 | FanDuel: $5,000
The second-year Lions receiver has 5 catches for 92 yards through three games, including a breakout 3-catch, 66-yard performance against the Jets in Week 3. He caught all three of his targets and produced Detroit's longest reception of the game, a 49-yard catch.
TeSlaa appears to be earning more trust from Jared Goff. He played 48% of Detroit's offensive snaps in Week 3, and his recent production could lead to a few additional opportunities. Carolina's depleted secondary also creates an appealing environment for Detroit's pass catchers, particularly if the Lions continue to score at their current pace.
Brycen Tremayne, WR, Carolina Panthers – DraftKings: $3,600 | FanDuel: $5,200
Tremayne broke out in Week 3, catching 4 of 6 targets for 83 yards while playing 81% of Carolina's offensive snaps. That workload came largely because Xavier Legette was inactive and Coker left early with a quad injury.
Tremayne broke out in Week 3, catching 4 of 6 targets for 83 yards while playing 81% of Carolina's offensive snaps. That workload came largely because Xavier Legette was inactive and Coker left early with a quad injury.
SNF DFS Picks: Kickers & D/ST
Jake Bates has been perfect through three games, converting 3-of-3 field goals and all 12 extra-point attempts, but that success has translated to only 21 fantasy points, or 7.0 per game, because Detroit has been finishing drives with touchdowns rather than field goals.
Ryan Fitzgerald has been extremely efficient to start the season, going 7-for-7 on field goals and 8-for-9 on extra points through three games. He is coming off a huge Week 3 performance in which he made all four of his field-goal attempts, including a 53-yarder.
Detroit's defense has struggled badly through three games, allowing 31.7 points per game and 979 passing yards, the most in the NFL. The Lions have also surrendered nine passing touchdowns, so this isn't a matchup where you can simply assume the defense will dominate.
Detroit is averaging 31 points per game and has turned the ball over just once through three games, making it difficult to project the turnovers and defensive scores Carolina needs for a big fantasy performance. Carolina ranks fifth in the NFL in passing yards allowed at 172.3 per game, which could make life more difficult for Jared Goff and the Lions' receivers. However, the Panthers have been terrible against the run, allowing 193.3 rushing yards per game, worst in the league.
