This really shouldn’t be a rivalry game. But because it’s the Chicago Bears, and because Aaron Rodgers is (hopefully) on the other side, it is. It’s personal between these teams because Rodgers wants it that way. And, if you ask him, he wants to play specifically because it’s the Bears.

The reality, though, is that Rodgers is dealing with a broken wrist. He wants to play through it but it’s still up for debate about whether that is safe or possible. Or whether he can actually throw the football at a high level with such an injury. So that, among others things, is absolutely going to have to factor into our Steelers vs. Bears predictions and picks for Week 12.

Steelers vs. Bears Predictions For Sunday 1:00 PM ET, NFL Week 12

Given these teams are in different conferences, they really don’t play all that often. Hence the mention that there isn’t much rivalry between the teams in the intro. In fact, they’ve only played once over the last seven years and that was back in 2021. The Steelers won that game 29-27 but those were obviously different teams then.

The Bears are now leading the tough NFC North with a 7-3 record. They’ve won three straight now and seven of their last eight, with their lone loss coming to the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers are in first in their division as well at 6-4. They’ve split their last six games 6-6 with wins over the Bengals, Colts, and Browns but losses to the Packers, Chargers, and Bengals.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Will Aaron Rodgers Play?

Aaron Rodgers has crushed the Bears historically. You know it, I know it, Rodgers knows it. He’s said openly that he “owns the Bears”. But there’s one little thing holding him back this week. A broken wrist. He says he will play if they allow him too but it’s not a pain tolerance issue - it’s a safety issue. The potential switch from Rodgers to Mason Rudolph, even mid game, is a big problem for the Steelers.

On defense, the numbers against them may have been a big skewed by some shootout games. The raw numbers suggest that the Steelers are allowing the most pass yards per game - which is true. But DVOA, a stat over at FTN Fantasy that attempts to contextualize some of those numbers, suggests that they would be more middle-of-the-pack against average opponents. In fact, they have them 11th, just outside the top 10. So this defense isn’t necessarily as bad in reality as they seem on paper.

Chicago Bears: Is A Rookie Takeover Looming?

Fantasy gamers everywhere have been clamoring for more Colston Loveland and more Luther Burden. With Loveland, they’re going to have to sit and hope but, reports this week, suggest that Luther Burden could see a bigger role. And some of those hints come directly from head coach Ben Johnson himself. So we might not have a full “changing of the guard” between against guys like Rome Odunze or DJ Moore, but we likely will see less Olamide Zaccheaus as the season rolls on.

The Bears' defense has not been as hopeful as the offense. Pretty anywhere you look from DVOA at FTN Fantasy or Pro Football Focus’s grades have them graded out as a bottom-10 unit. And they’ve had a pretty tough go against the run, where DVOA has them as a bottom-five team this year.

Steelers vs. Bears: Chicago Bears -2.5 (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook)

I’m locking this one down while I can. Why? Because I actually think the Bears are a good enough team right now that they could cover this at home even with a healthy Aaron Rodgers. The fact that Rodgers has a broken wrist and could be ruled out of this game at any moment is just gravy. That could easily come during the game.

I understand that Rodgers has a good record against the Bears. But he’s playing for a different team. The Bears themselves are a different team. At a certain point are we actually looking at analytics and metrics here or are we banking on voodoo and magic?

The Bears right now are not getting enough respect as a 7-3 team and division leader. Ben Johnson is getting into a groove with his new team and his young weapons like Colston Loveland and Luther Burden are just starting to come alive. I think the Bears win this one at home pretty reasonable. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Rodgers did not finish this game.
