As the old saying goes, “Good teams win, great teams cover.” We are back for Week 9 with our picks against the spread! After a week where it felt like none of the games were remotely close, I am hoping for a better week with some more exciting action. With the slate we were given, I have a feeling I am going to get my wish.

NFL Week Nine Picks Against The Spread + NFL Week 9 Schedule Predictions

For the NFL Week 9 Schedule, we have 28 of the 32 teams playing in 14 games, as we are back to just four teams on a bye week: the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. NFL Week 9 Picks Against The Spread: Kansas City Chiefs -1.5 (-112 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

One of the most anticipated games that we seem to get every single year, whether it be in the regular season, postseason, or both, is back this week. Chiefs vs. Bills. Mahomes vs. Allen. This game is bound to bring offensive fireworks, especially with the Chiefs' offense averaging around 31 points per game in their last five and the Bills coming off a 40-point showing. That being said, I have more concerns about the Bills coming into this game than the Chiefs. 

The Chiefs are on a three game winning streak where both their offense has looked unstoppable and their defense has also elevated their level of play. During this winning streak, the Chiefs have only allowed 61 rushing yards per game, notably against the dynamic running back duo in Detroit, a top-three rushing offense in Washington, and rookie phenom Ashton Jeanty. When the Bills' run game has been stifled, that is when their cracks have started to show. That is when Josh Allen has started to play hero ball, and that is when the weakness in offensive pass catchers has been blatant.

Additionally, the Bills are missing a game-changer on the defensive side of the ball: Ed Oliver. The defensive tackle has only been able to suit up and play in three games this season. In those three games, he has registered three sacks and seven tackles for loss. Without Oliver, this defensive unit is completely different, which is devastating when going up against one of the league's hottest offenses. These games always seem to come down to one play, one mistake, or one call. With so much going for KC right now, it is hard to pick against them, especially with the line we are being given.

 

 

 

NFL Week 9 Picks Against The Spread: Los Angeles Rams -13.5 (-124 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

Last week, I took the spread on two underdogs; this week, I am rocking with two favorites. You'll rarely see me look to a spread as big as this one, but it just seems unfair for a rookie to be going up against the Los Angeles Rams in his first start. Especially when that rookie is Tyler Shough. At the age of 26 years old, you would expect him to be more “pro-ready.” From what we have seen, that hasn't been the case. He was unable to beat out Spencer Rattler for the starting job to start the season; that was already strike one, and in the action we got to see against the Bucs last week, he left a lot to be desired. 

Coming off a bye week, this Rams team should be well rested and licking their chops for the opportunity to play against Shough. They are getting their best offensive player back from injury in Puka Nacua, so even if Shough happens to magically light up the defense, at least the offense should be clicking. They even put up 35 points without Nacua when we last saw them on the field. This entire Saints team is outmatched, outmanned, and frankly, outcoached, from top to bottom. This game might get ugly.
