Cowboys vs. Steelers Predictions For NFL Week 5, Sunday 10/6
Like most teams in different conferences, these teams only square up every four years unless they meet in the Super Bowl. And, since neither team has been to the Super Bowl in over a decade, the last time they faced each other was 2020 - the Steelers won that one 24-19.
Guys like Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Dalton Schultz, and Ezekiell Ellott all took part in that game but the Steelers offense looks completely different than the era of Ben Roethlisberger, James Conner, Diontae Johnson, and JuJu Smith-Schuster. The Steelers will attempt to advance to 4-1 this week while the Cowboys currently sit at .500 with a 2-2 record.
Dallas Cowboys: The CeeDee Lamb Show
Despite Jerry Jones saying the Cowboys would go “all in” this offseason, they didn’t really do a whole lot. They lost Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadisz on the line. Michael Gallup and Tony Pollard walked. They didn’t draft any wide receivers or running backs. They’re making due with the weapons they have.
Though, this week at least, they will be without wide receiver Brandin Cooks. That leaves megastar CeeDee Lamb at the top followed by tight end Jake Ferguson and wide receiver Jalen Tolbert. They’ll use Jalen Brooks and KaVontae Turpin to replace the speedy Cooks.
The Cowboys were expected to be one of the league’s best defernses but they haven’t be so hot so far. They are missing star corner DaRon Bland. Backup Caelon Carson has been struggling and, in his absence last week, Andrew Booth Jr. had a tough time as well. Now Trevon Diggs missed practice on Friday with an ankle issue leaving him questionable for this week. With Micah Parsons also out, the Cowboys defense is in trouble.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Justin Fields Redemption Song
It’s not just Justin Fields who should be getting credit for bouncing back after a lot of criticism. This offense wouldn’t be what it is without Arthur Smith. He’s worked with mobile quarterbacks before like Ryan Tannehill who finished as the QB7 in fantasy football under Arthur Smith. So it should not come as a complete surprise.
George Pickens, Pat Freiermuth, and Najee Harris have all played solid under the new regime. Jaylen Warren has dealt with injury. After Pickens, a second WR option has yet to emerge which has led to rumors of a Davante Adams trade. Rookie Roman Wilson has yet to play after being injured for most of the summer. They’ve used a lot of multiple tight end sets rather than forcing it to the other wideouts.
The Steelers' defense has been the crown jewel so far. They currently rank 7th overall in DVOA on the year per FTN Fantasy while ranking 7th against the pass and 3rd agains the run. Obviously All-World pass rusher TJ Watt is a huge part of that.
Cowboys vs. Steelers Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines
As promised, the latest Cowboys vs. Steelers odds can be found below courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook:
- Point Spread: Pittsburgh Steelers -2.5 (-115) vs. Dallas Cowboys +2.5 (-105)
- Money Line: Pittsburgh Steelers (-145) vs. Dallas Cowboys (+120)
- Game Total (Over/Under): Over 44 (-110) vs. Under 44 (-110)
Cowboys vs. Steelers: Pittsburgh Steelers -2.5 (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook)
If both teams were healthy, this might be a more difficult pick for us. But they are not. Dallas is missing Brandin Cooks on offense as well as star defensive players Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland. If Trevon Diggs also misses the game after showing up late on the injury report with an ankle issue, they’ll have no one capable of stopping George Pickens.
The Cowboys also have struggled mightily with the run game leaning on Rico Dowdle. Going up against a top three defense against the run sounds like a nightmare proposition. Rather than bet on the Cowboys to win this game or even cover, you might as well just bet the over on every CeeDee Lamb prop. He’s going to need to put this team on his back if they are going to have any chance at all.
