Commanders vs. Chiefs Predictions for Monday Night Football, NFL Week 8

We always expected that Jayden Daniels would be out based on what the Commanders vs. Chiefs odds were telling us. Prior to the Week 7 games, Patrick Mahomes and KC were expected to be favorites around five points; they’re now favored by double that! Since then, Jayden Daniels has officially been ruled out.

That’s a colossal shift in terms of a point spread, so not to bury the lead, but it won’t be the focus of our Commanders vs. Chiefs predictions. That said, we do still have a very standard and basic approach that we love. However, if you’re one who loves player props, make sure that you check out our premium NFL best bets for Monday Night Football.

Don’t worry - with this being a prime time game, we’ve got multiple ways to approach a rather rare NFC vs. AFC matchup. Both teams have paths to victory, but as you’ll see with the best bet from our Commanders vs. Chiefs predictions coming up, we won’t need to sweat out Washington pulling off the upset of KC covering a monster spread.

Commanders vs. Chiefs Best Bet: Over 47 Points (-111 at Novig)

We noted the massive shift in the point spread above, but it wasn’t the only market affected by the Jayden Daniels injury. While that movement was a tell-tale sign that he’ll miss this game due to the hamstring injury, it’s also significantly lowered the total.

While we understand that shift, it’s one that we see provides value, therefore making it the focus of our Commanders vs. Chiefs predictions. The lookahead total for this MNF matchup was as high as 51.5, so as you can see, this is another huge shift. Having Marcus Mariota step in as the starter has us viewing it as too big of a shift.

Sure, he’s not Jayden Daniels, but he’s among the better backups in the entire NFL. He’s also one who can help Washington do their part in a high-scoring game, as the Chiefs should do the majority of the heavy lifting. Marcus Mariota has already been thrust into action three times this year with an earlier Jayden Daniels knee sprain, and all were high-scoring games.

Those three performances ended in results of a 41-24 win, and 34-27, and 44-22 losses. While he didn’t start each game, he’s a veteran who can run this offense. Those scores also demonstrate Washington's rather subpar defense.

For example, that 34-27 loss was to the Atlanta Falcons. Outside of that game, the Falcons have scored more than 20 points just once (24). Washington’s defense line is strong, but they simply aren’t finishing plays - something that is a must when facing a play-extender like Patrick Mahomes.

With all that in mind, the best bet from our Commanders vs. Chiefs predictions is simply the over 47 points (-111 at Novig).
