The New England Patriots seem to have found their franchise quarterback in Drake Maye. The Cleveland Browns started the season with five different quarterbacks in the organization with Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. They are working their way through that list, hoping to find the answer.Â

Browns vs. Patriots Predictions For Sunday 1:00 PM ET, NFL Week 8
There was a stretch where the Browns and Patriots happened to match up three times in a four-year span. But that was from 2019 to 2022, and they have not played since then - and it’s been a new era for each team. In general, the Patriots have beaten the Browns in their last five matchups and nine of the last ten, so the Browns are hoping to turn that around here.Â
They’re also hoping to turn around their season. They’re currently 2-5, though they did just win a muddy one against the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots are 5-2 and atop the AFC East. They lost two of their first three games to the Raiders and Steelers but have since won three straight against the Bills, Saints, and Titans.Â

Cleveland Browns: The Dillon Gabriel Era
As the Browns often do, they set themselves up to use multiple quarterbacks this year. They traded Kenny Pickett before the season. Then traded starter Joe Flacco mid-season after benching him. Now it’s Dillon Gabriel’s turn, and if he can’t hang, we’ll see Shedeur Sanders.
With Cedric Tillman out, they’ve looked to use Isaiah Bond as the WR2 opposite Jerry Jeudy. The WR3 doesn’t play a big role in this offense because Kevin Stefanski likes his two-tight-end sets. It’s typically Harold Fannin and David Njoku, but with Njoku out last week, Blake Whiteheart stepped in.
The Browns' defense has actually been pretty good, especially against the run. They actually grade out as the top-ranked run defense according to both FTN Fantasy and Pro Football Focus. They’ve been a little easier to battle in the passing games, but it hasn’t been the defense that has been the problem this year in Cleveland.Â
New England Patriots: Missing Their Top Wide Receiver
Drake Maye’s ability to spread the ball around is a promising sign for a young QB. Sure, they leaned on Stefon Diggs in his revenge game against the Bills. But for the most part, they’ve spread it around, getting help from all of Diggs, Rhamondre Stevenson, Kayson Boutte, Demario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Hunter Henry, and Austin Hooper. And they still have rookies TreVeyon Henderson and Kyle Williams hoping to grow their roles and make an impact at some point.
Early on, when they didn’t have Christian Gonzalez, the Patriots' defense struggled on the backend. Since his return, they have been much more formidable. They’ve been stout upfront with recent additions Milton Williams, Robert Spillane, and Harold Landry joining Christian Barmore and company. They currently rank as a top-five unit per DVOA over at FTN Fantasy.Â

- Point Spread: Cleveland Browns +7 (-110) vs. New England Patriots -7 (-110)
- Money Line: Cleveland Browns (+280) vs. New England Patriots (-350)
- Game Total (Over/Under): Over 40.5 (-110) vs. Under 40.5 (-110)
Browns vs. Patriots: Drake Maye O1.5 Pass TDs (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook)
I think the Patriots win this game. But I don’t love taking them to win by more than a touchdown here. I think the Patriots inevitably take care of business and we all know how to do that against Cleveland - through the air.Â
Drake Maye has guys that can pop off big plays at any time in Kayshon Boutte, Demario Douglas, and Mack Hollins. He has the reliable Stefon Diggs. And Hunter Henry is a touchdown threat in any given week. That’s why Maye has thrown for two or more touchdowns in five of his seven games this year. With this number 1-ranked run defense on the other side, Maye’s going to have to take to the skies. And I don’t think that will be a problem for him at home this week.Â
