Bengals vs. Commanders Predictions For NFL Preseason Week 2, Monday 8/18

If you had Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase being featured in Week 1 on your preseason bingo card, then you should consider placing some NFL futures bets. For perspective on how different that was, Burrow’s 10 pass attempts were more than he’s had in his entire career in the preseason (just eight).

Joe Burrow completed nine of those 10 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Four of those receptions came by the hands of Ja'Marr Chase, along with 77 of the yards and one of touchdowns.

As fans of a team right down the street from the Commanders - the Baltimore Ravens - will tell you, the duo is dynamic as it gets. It’s clear that Cincinnati head coach Zac Talyor wants to change the narrative of bad starts to the season under his regime, which is just the truth rather than only a narrative.

Also headlining the news at Bengals training camp is the contract dispute with star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson. While that may not directly affect Bengals vs. Commanders predictions for this weekend, it’s still absolutely worth monitoring with just one week of preseason action left.

Bengals vs. Commanders Best Bet: Cincinnati -4.5 Points (-105 At BetMGM)

We put quite a bit of emphasis on Cincinnati above due to their shift in strategy, but that’s not to gloss over the Commanders, given their high expectations these days. With that being primarily thanks to now second-year QB Jayden Daniels, we weren’t surprised that he didn’t take the field last week.

That fact, coupled with Cincinnati trying to gain momentum early on, means that we’re also not surprised that the Bengals vs. Commanders odds have Joe Burrow and company favored, even on the road.

It also has this matchup projected to be the highest-scoring of the entire preseason thus far, giving us a reasonable regular-season total of 42.5 points. We can attribute that to the fact that not only are the Bengals' starters expected to see the field again, but so too are Jayden Daniels and the Commanders' starters.

That said, you see that we’re still backing Cincinnati in this one. We still expect Daniels to be far more limited than Burrow, especially given his overall size and preference to run. It also doesn’t help that he won’t have a security blanket to throw to, given Terry McLaurin’s holdout and trade request.

Cinci also has plenty of other motivating factors with guys looking to make the roster, especially on defense in the secondary at safety and the defensive line. We all saw how that side of the ball was a massive flaw for them last year, so you can be sure that they’ll be just as motivated as Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase.

Feel free to make a quick two-legger with the money line, but we’ll focus our Bengals vs. Commanders predictions on Cincinnati -4.5 (-105 at BetMGM).

Bengals vs. Commanders Injury Report & Latest News

In terms of Bengals vs. Commanders injury news, Cincinnati’s preseason opener saw starting FS Geno Stone leave early with a hamstring concern, so they’ll be hoping that Week 2 doesn’t bring any more soft tissue concerns.

Washington is hoping for the same, as they lost OT Lucas Niang to a torn ACL last week against the New England Patriots. As for overall Bengals vs. Commanders news, we’re also still on Terry McLaurin watch since requesting a trade a few weeks ago now.
