After being the most discussed team of the offseason and preseason thanks to drafting Shedeur Sanders, the Cleveland Browns open their season with an AFC North rivalry by hosting Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. With what is also an in-state Ohio rivalry, we’ve got our best Bengals vs. Browns predictions for you.

Bengals vs. Browns Predictions for NFL Week 1, Sunday 9/7

While Shedeur Sanders may have stolen the headlines and even our intro, he’s not even the one that we’re going to see under center. It wasn’t long after the rookie’s first preseason game - which was quite a solid performance - that the Browns named Joe Flacco the starter.

The 40-year-old was the Comeback Player of the Year for Cleveland just two seasons ago, and oh yeah, Joe Burrow won it for Cincinnati just last season. Even still, neither QB has been able to lead their teams to significant playoff success for a little while now. The duo of Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase is one that fans expect to see back in the AFC Championship Game.

Given that fact, even with them being on the road, the Bengals vs. Browns odds have Cincinnati as clear favorites. You’ll likely see that as the season develops, we’re quite partial to prop markets for more specific approaches to games, and ultimately, better value.

However, until we get a bit more data and see more play out, we’re actually going to stick with those standard markets for the best bet from our Bengals vs. Browns predictions.

Bengals vs. Browns Best Bet: Under 47.5 Points (-105 at Bet365)

Not only are we keeping things super basic for this opening weekend rivalry, but it’s also an approach that is sure to surprise many, if not most, fans. That’s because the unit that has been holding back Burrow and company is the Bengals defense.

We’re not even here to push back against that either, yet we’re still taking the under as the focus of our Bengals vs. Browns picks. There is no denying that Cincinnati’s defense continues to need improvement, especially given all the offseason drama surrounding their best player - Trey Hendrickson.

That said, the Browns are not the team to fully exploit that weak defensive unit. Last season was the Bengals worst display of defense, yet for both of our Bengals vs. Browns predictions, we took low-scoring angles, and both best bets cashed. Those were with an overall under and a Cleveland team total under.

Cinci won those games 24-6 and 21-14, so those were sweat-free picks as well. Sure, perhaps the future for the Dawg Pound is bright with rookie QBs Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, but right now, they simply don’t bring a huge package of explosive weapons to the field.

This is no longer a team featuring a prime Nick Chubb to help find the endzone, and while we recognize that Cincinnati can light up the scoreboard themselves, Cleveland’s defense is the far stronger unit. After all, until the Bengals prove otherwise, they’ve continuously started slow under head coach Zac Taylor.

Even if they nearly hit this total themselves, we’ve still got under 47 points (-115 at Bet365 Sportsbook) as the best bet from our Bengals vs. Browns predictions.
