49ers vs. Bills Predictions, Picks & Odds: Week 13, Sunday Night Football 12/1
What a magical week of football. Not only is it Thanksgiving, the holy week of the NFL, but it’s loaded with fantastic matchups. There are some interesting divisional games like the Steelers vs. the Bengals but we’re most excited for a couple of these rare NFC vs. AFC games, like Eagles vs. Ravens. And the big one on Sunday Night - 49ers vs. Bills.
These teams don’t play often which can make our 49ers vs. Bills predictions for Sunday Night Football all the more difficult. Though the reality in the NFL is that each team is different every year. And injuries can completely change the landscape from week to week.

49ers vs. Bills Predictions For NFL Week 13, Sunday Night Football 12/1
As I mentioned, these teams do not play often. They essentially play every four years which doesn’t help us a whole lot considering Brock Purdy and a number of these players haven’t even been in the league for four years. Regardless, the Ravens won each of the last two matchups. They won 34-24 in 2020 and they won big in 2016, 45-16.
The Buffalo Bills have been hot, winning six straight. The most recent one was a marquee matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs where they knocked off the undefeated team 30-21. They’ll be coming in fresh this week off their bye. The 49ers season has not gone according to plan as they sit with a 5-6 record and have dropped their last two. All four teams in the NFC West are either 6-5 or 5-6 though so the division is very much within reach.
San Francisco 49ers: A Season Marred By Injuries
The 49ers offense utilizes a fullback which highly consolidates the snaps among the top weapons. So ideally you have Brock Purdy working with Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Brandon Aiyuk. This year, there have been zero games with all of those players healthy. In fact, of those five players, there has only been one game this year with four ofthem healthy - Week 10. In every other game, at least two of them have been out. Brandon Aiyuk is out for the season so this week, the are hoping to have four again. But they’ll need quarterback Brock Purdy to get cleared for that to happen.
On defense the 49ers have been great against the pass, middle of the pack against the run. Their pass defense is expected to get a boost this week with Charvarius Ward expected to return to the lineup. The biggest boost would come from NIck Bosa playing, who has been out the last few weeks.
Buffalo Bills: A More Balanced Approach
The Buffalo Bills in past years leaned heavily on Stefon Diggs, a player who routinely would garner 150+ targets and 60+ first downs. After trading him to the Houston Texans, they have spread the ball out a lot more. In fact, no Bills player is currently on pace to have 100+ targets this season. Which is what they want.
The Bills defense has been great this year as well. They currently rank 7th in DVOA per FTN Fantasy, right behind the 49ers at 6th. Dorian Williams has been a tackle machine with nearly 100 combined tackles through 11 games. And Damar Hamlin continues his miraculous comeback as he’s graduated from a special teams player to a starting NFL safety.

As football fans, we naturally want these games to be high scoring. You can have low scoring good games of course but the best ones are high scoring, close ones. Unfortunately, these teams aren’t currently built for that.
The big question mark here is whether Brock Purdy will play and how efficient he will be with his shoulder injury. We have to imagine they attempt to lean on the run wherever possible and keep the throws short to limit his exposure to big hits.
On the other side, the 49ers defense has been most susceptible to the run. The Bills have been running the ball well with James Cook and they’ve been utilizing a lot of short passes to guys like Khalil Shakir and the tight ends. All of this to me is shaping up for the kind of gamescript that leads to a low scoring game. So we are taking the under.
