NFL Week 1 Picks Against The Spread: Philadelphia Eagles -7 (-110 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
I discussed the Tennessee Titans briefly in my picks straight up article, but this team was incredibly disappointing in Week One. It takes A LOT to make the New York Jets look like a good football team, but the Titans managed it. While I think any defensive concerns will work themselves out, it's not like Geno Smith absolutely tore them up or Breece Hall’s yards per carry were too outrageous, but I am seriously concerned about the offense. Not only is the offensive line still a question mark, but Cam Ward continues to struggle with his accuracy, finishing 19/32 passing for only 140 yards. Mind you, this was against the Jets team that did not intercept a single pass last season.
Now Ward gets to face off against an elite Eagles defense that just held Jayden Daniels under 200 total yards. With the amount of time Ward has historically held onto the ball, I would expect the Eagles defense to give him trouble early and often.
I would not even say that it was the defense that won the Eagles their Week One matchup against the Commanders; it was Jalen Hurts. After a down year last season, Hurts opened up this new campaign with a clean three-touchdown-to-zero-interception stat line, right around 250 total yards, and some clutch plays down the stretch to clinch the game for Philly despite some struggles with the offensive line. In a new offense under Sean Mannion, things should only improve with time for Hurts.
This line opened up at 4.5 points and shifted so quickly to 7. That happened for a reason, and I am still comfortable with it. Give me the Birds to win this game by two scores fairly easily.
NFL Week 1 Picks Against The Spread: Seattle Seahawks -3.5 (-115 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
I know the Seahawks are going to be without their starting quarterback. I know the Cardinals just pulled off an impressive upset over the Chargers. Are we forgetting that this matchup is between the reigning Super Bowl Champions and a team that was just picking in the top three of the NFL Draft?
There might be concerns about the Seahawks offense under Drew Lock, but it is not like this matchup is against an elite defense. The Cardinals finished the 2025 season ranked 27th in total defense, and while I do believe in some of the improvements in the roster throughout the offseason, it is not THAT improved.
What makes this Seahawks team special, in my opinion, is their defense more so than the offense. So even if there are concerns about Lock and the offense, Mike Macdonald and his defense just held the reigning AFC Champions and MVP runner-up to 10 points in the season opener. Now, he should have his defensive chess piece back in Nick Emmanwori. I love some of the Cardinals' offensive pieces, but they do not move me enough to warrant a 3.5-point spread.
People love to overreact to Week One. It happens every season. Now is our chance to capitalize on it and hammer Seahawks -3.5.
