NFL Training Camp Updates, Live News, Injuries
Colts, Browns Quarterback Battles Heating Up
Leading off the NFL Training Camp Updates are the Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns with their quarterback battles.
With Kenny Pickett now being sidelined with a hamstring injury that he picked up over the weekend, and being considered day-to-day, Joe Flacco is now taking the vast majority of the first-team reps. Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders may get limited opportunities based on the drill, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Meanwhile, in Indianapolis, both Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson have been splitting the first-team reps, with both quarterbacks impressing the coaching staff. While Stefanski has previously stated that he wants to figure out his quarterback position sooner rather than later, Colts head coach Shane Steichen noted that he doesn't have a timeline as to when he plans to name a starter.
NFL Training Camp Padded Practices Kick Off
Several teams across the league have transitioned to their padded practices, including the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, and more. This allows players to get live reps against one another and prepare for their first preseason games. The Los Angeles Chargers and Detroit Lions kick off the preseason with the Hall of Fame Game this Thursday, July 31st, while all other teams start their preseason schedule the following week, starting on August 7th.
Rookie WRs NFL Training Camp Standouts - Tetairoa McMillan, Jaylin Noel, and more
So far into training camp, coaches and players have been speaking incredibly highly of the first-round rookie receivers Emeka Egbuka, as he has made an immediate impact with the first-team, and Tetairoa McMillian, as he has flashed playmaking ability like this:
That being said, they aren't the only ones who have been showing out. The Houston Texans drafted two former Iowa State Cyclone receivers in the 2025 NFL Draft: second-rounder Jayden Higgins and third-rounder Jaylin Noel. While Higgins has gotten most of the press, since he was the higher-drafted receiver, Noel was the player who was turning heads today:
The Los Angeles Chargers face a similar situation to the Texans, with multiple rookie receivers on the roster making headlines, but today, fifth-rounder KeAndre Lambert-Smith was the one who showed off his potential:
In the same division, the Las Vegas Raiders are looking for a lot of offensive changes with a new head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterback. Today, that new quarterback, Geno Smith, was able to connect with his rookie wide receiver Donte Thornton Jr. on a beautiful 70-yard deep ball. Even with that play, though, the receiving highlight of the day might have come from their rookie running back, Ashton Jeanty, as he showed off his natural route-running abilities:
NFL Contract Extensions - Courtland Sutton, Terry McLaurin, and more
Today was a big day in terms of NFL Training Camp Updates surrounding contract situations. Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton received a four-year, 92 million dollar deal after it was reported earlier that the team was determined to get this done as soon as possible. This may muddy the waters for contract negotiations between Terry McLaurin and the Washington Commanders, as McLaurin has been holding out for a new deal, ideally reaching a number higher than DK Metcalf's 33 million dollar a year deal. With the 29-year-old Sutton coming in 10 million less than Metcalf's average per year, the Commanders might not want to pay their 29-year-old as much either.
Bengals EDGE Trey Hendrickson has also been holding out for a new contract, and now that the Bengals have handled their contract dispute with their first-round rookie, Shemar Stewart, the attention refocuses on Hendrickson. They reportedly have the framework of a deal in place, but remain far apart on a number for guaranteed money.
Packers OL Elgton Jenkins and Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie are also looking for contract extensions soon, but are still practicing with their teams.
