NFL Friday Roundup: Dolphins Moves, Injuries, Trades & Fantasy Buzz, 7/4

Happy Fourth of July, fellow football enthusiasts! And, as we are now into the summer months, it’s time to get back into some Friday NFL news and rumors recaps! Sure, it’s not full-on draft season like late August, so you might not have your ear completely to the streets. And that’s fine because guess what - we do.
So what I’m going to do each Friday is pull the important NFL news stories that you might have missed and highlight them here at the top. And, if there are any additional speculations or rumors that fantasy football gamers might be interested in, we’ll throw that at the bottom too. If you check this out once a week and have seen all the news, then great—you're plugged in. If you see something you didn’t, then even better - you’re up to speed!
The Pittsburgh Steelers Trade Minkah Fitzpatrick and Pick to Miami Dolphins for Jonnu Smith and Jalen Ramsey
- In a blockbuster deal for this time of year, the Pittsburgh Steelers have added two ~30-year-old veterans in Jonnu Smith and Jalen Ramsey to join Aaron Rodgers and his “win now” question. In exchange, Minkah Fitzpatrick rejoins his former team in Miami. Included in the deal is a pick swap with a 2026 5th going to Miami and a 2026 7th coming back to Pittsburgh.
Darren Waller Returns to NFL, Joins Miami Dolphins
- The Dolphins' tight end plans following the Jonnu Smith trade became quickly apparent. It was announced shortly after that Darren Waller will “unretire” and make his return to the NFL. As the New York Giants still have his rights, the Dolphins will send a conditional 6th-round pick to New York for a conditional 7th-round pick. It’s unclear what the conditions are that would see those picks escalate (or perhaps become void if he doesn’t play).
Could T.J. Watt Be On The Trade Block?
- It’s no secret that superstar defender T.J. Watt isn’t happy with his contract. He’s missed most of organized activities this offseason. And now rumors are swirling that he could potentially be on the trade block. The Steelers still believe they have put a good enough offer on the table that Watt will eventually accept.
California Bans Fantasy Sports
- The California Attorney General, Rob Bonta, has deemed that fantasy sports are considered gambling. As many forms of gambling are illegal in California, that essentially bans fantasy sports. It’s yet to be seen if this will mostly apply to Daily Fantasy Sports or all fantasy football contests. Fantasy sports platform Underdog has already filed suit against the decision by the state of California.
Chiefs Mascot KC Wolf Retires
- The man behind the Kansas City Chiefs' iconic mascot, K.C. Wolf, has announced his retirement. He served as the Chiefs' official “Director of Shenanigans” for the last 35 years. It will be interesting to see what the Chiefs' next move is to get fans riled up.
Ohio Governer Mike DeWin Signs Bill To Give Cleveland Browns New Stadium
The bill is reportedly for $600 million. The team will be moved to nearby Brooks Park, located about 20 minutes southeast of Cleveland. The new stadium will have a dome which not only helps playing conditions and fan experience but also could make it a more attractive location for a future Super Bowl.
