NFL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets for Sunday Night Football, 9/7

There is simply so much to discuss when these two AFC juggernauts meet, but there is no denying that the majority of debates all week have been regarding who needs this win more - Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen?

Both are elite, MVP-winning QBs, but neither has been able to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. For Lamar, many consider him to come up small in the postseason after amazing regular seasons. For Allen, it’s often Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs that get in his way. So, what’s going to give in this matchup?

Well, it’s not the playoffs, so that means Lamar has to come out on top, right? Well, the Ravens vs. Bills odds would say otherwise, as they slightly favor Buffalo. So, let’s discuss how each team can win this near pick ‘em to progress to our NFL best bets for Sunday Night Football.

Sunday Night Football Prediction for Ravens vs. Bills

Speaking of Lamar Jackson owning the regular season, he and the Ravens absolutely torched Josh Allen and the Bills in the regular season last year to the tune of a 35-10 victory. As remarkable as Jackson is, it was King Derrick Henry who owned that game, going for a whopping 199 rushing yards!

Keep in mind that this was also when the Bills were 3-0 to start last season, with many fans already calling it the year they would get past Mahomes and the Chiefs. While they didn’t end up doing so, they did take down the Ravens to get redemption.

That was in the thrilling AFC Divisional Round - a 27-25 win for Buffalo. We won’t get into the Mark Andrews drop that still haunts Baltimore fans, but it all adds up to this being one of the most important Week 1 games that we’ve ever seen. For the Ravens to win, we expect a combination of an elite secondary and a heavy dose of King Henry.

We already noted how Derrick Henry cruised through Buffalo’s defense last year, and their lack of DL depth is still a concern. Of course, Josh Allen always has the ability to put on his Superman cape and derail any positives that the Ravens have going for them, which is why we commonly see NFL predictions focused on the QB.

Even with all of the above in mind, the top pick from our NFL best bets for Sunday Night Football isn’t on any of players above!

Ravens vs. Bills Best Bet for NFL Week 1: Zay Flowers Over 4.5 Receptions (-113 at Rebet)

Instead, we’ve got our eyes on Baltimore WR Zay Flowers. The first-round pick in 2023 out of Boston College has been nothing but incredible for the team, and we expect Lamar Jackson to target him early and often.

Trusting Mark Andrews again is tough, and with fellow TE Isaiah Likely banged up, he’s sure to be the main target right off the bat. Furthermore, the youngster has not shied away from these big moments. Last year, the Ravens opened up with the Kansas City Chiefs, and Flowers saw 10 targets and caught six of them.

He followed that up with seven receptions on 11 targets the following week, and we love how he closed out the season. Ignoring the meaningless Week 18 game (while also not 100%), he saw 6+ targets in eight of the last nine games.

That included 12 targets with a seven-catch, 115-yard performance, and he had 9+ targets five times last year. We’re also sticking with receptions because racking up the yards is not what Lamar Jackson has been able to do against Buffalo. In five starts against the Bills, he’s thrown for over 200 yards just once.

Don’t worry - he’s still had 25+ attempts in four of those games, so short completion is what we’re looking for. In a game that could go either way, we’ve got Zay Flowers over 4.5 receptions (-113 at Rebet) as the top pick from our NFL best bets for Sunday Night Football.
