With all that going on, there are bound to be countless headlines, NFL breaking news, and rumors swirling around, and we are here to keep you up to date with it all!
Latest NFL News & Rumors This Week: Unofficial Depth Charts Shake Things Up
We love some classic offseason overreactions, and outside of some NFL training camp clips, nothing gets that done quite like the drop of the first unofficial NFL depth chart. Suddenly some players are going to be superstars while others are already draft busts before playing a snap. This is especially true for the rookies on the Denver Broncos and the Miami Dolphins, as Dolphins rookie wide receiver Chris Bell has reportedly flashed enough to earn the WR1 designation, while all the rookies on the Broncos are listed at the bottom of the depth chart.
Yesterday, the New Orleans Saints also listed Travis Etienne and Alvin Kamara as co-starters in their running back room. Plus, the Browns' quarterback room also remains up in the air, as the QB1 role is listed as Deshaun Watson OR Shedeur Sanders.
Cam Skattebo & Tyrone Tracy Splitting the Giants Backfield
Perhaps the biggest thing to take note of in terms of depth charts from a fantasy football standpoint is that Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy were listed as co-starters on the Giants' initial depth chart. Some people were expecting Skattebo to be a bell cow in a Giants’ run-heavy scheme, but now things are looking like more of a committee in New York.
Some additional surprises in the Giants depth chart included the starting wide receivers as Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton, followed by Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin, and Jalin Hyatt as the second string, and finally a larger group in the third and fourth string, including big names like Odell Beckham., Malachi Fields, and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
On the defensive side of the ball, Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux were listed as co-starters, and the clear-cut CB1 and CB2 are listed as Paulson Adebo and Greg Newsome II.
Fantasy Football News & Rumors
The Chicago Bears Offense is Aiming to be the “Greatest of All Time”
Time to hop back on the Bears offense hype train in fantasy football, because Head Coach Ben Johnson has some lofty goals for his players. Johnson recently stated that he is chasing down the highest-scoring offense record, which was set by the 2013 Denver Broncos, who put up 37.9 PPG. Johnson stated, “I want shutouts. I want blowouts.”
The 2013 Broncos went on to produce the QB1, RB4, WR1, WR9, WR21, and TE3. This could bode well for the Chicago Bears offensive players if they even come remotely close to the success the Broncos had that season.
Rashee Rice Will Not Face Further Suspension
Last season, the big debate entering fantasy football drafts was where to take Rashee Rice since he was facing a six-game suspension. Now Rashee Rice is healthy(ish), through his legal trouble, and ready to be the Chiefs' WR1 yet again.
After Rice returned last season, he proceeded to finish as the WR4 in PPG despite a drop-off in Kansas City’s offensive output and an injury to Patrick Mahomes. He is now being drafted as the WR9 overall.
New NFL Injury Updates - Emeka Egbuka Leaves Practice Early
Today, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets held yet another joint practice, where the Bucs ultimately won the day again. One downside, though, was that their second-year receiver, Emeka Egbuka, left practice early with an injury.
The injury was reportedly a toe issue, but it is considered minor as of right now. The Buccaneers are expecting Egbuka to take a leap with Mike Evans leaving the team in free agency.
Other Notable Injury Updates
- Baltimore Ravens QB Skylar Thompson was placed on IR.
- Miami Dolphins DT Zach Sieler is week-to-week with an undisclosed injury.
- New Orleans Saints OL Dillon Radunz was placed on IR.
- New York Jets DB Qwan'tez Stiggers is at home and recovering after losing consciousness at practice yesterday. He is considered okay but is in concussion protocol.
