NBA DFS Showdown Slate Picks
MVP/Captain
Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets
Jokic is the obvious captain play tonight as he possesses the highest ceiling on the slate. He is just very expensive which comes with the territory. The Nuggets did play last night, but Jookic played just 27 minutes in the 112-94 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. He posted a quiet number with just a 15-point 13-rebound night for 35 fantasy points. I look for Jokic to having a big night tonight.
Kawhi Leonard, Los Angeles Clippers
Kawhi Leonard is coming off a game in which he played the most minutes of his NBA career with 46. That game did go into double overtime. Kawhi was great and efficient like he has been all season. He scored 44 points on 16-22 from the field including 6-9 from deep. If you want to save some money, I do not mind going down to Kawhi. You just have to know the ceiling isn't quite like Jokic's is.
Russell Westbrook, Los Angeles Clippers
Russell Westbrook debuted with the Clippers Friday night. He played a solid game posting 17 points and dishing out 14 assists. I was honestly surprised by how much Westbrook had the ball in his hands. He could see double-digit assists each night with all the scoring options around him, and you know he is going to want to get his every night as well. Westbrook is a fine play if you want to go cheap at the captain spot.
Utility
Paul George, Los Angeles Clippers
Well, I thought George was going to take the biggest hit from Westbrook coming over but then he came out and dropped a 60 fantasy point game. In my defense, the game was 176-175, and that most likely won't happen again all season. George is still a solid option at the utility spot if you can pay for him. He snagged 10 rebounds last game as well, and if he is going to rebound like that, his ceiling is much higher.
Jamal Murray, Denver Nuggets
Murray struggled last night against Memphis going 3-13 from the field for just eight points in 25 minutes. The good news on that stat line is that he only played 25 minutes so his legs should still be good to go for tonight. In his last meeting against the Clippers, he scored 40.5 fantasy points. I expect Murray to have a bounce-back game tonight.
Norman Powell, Los Angeles Clippers
Even with the rotation changes we still saw Powell play 38 minutes in their last game. We know that was because of the double-overtime game, so I expect him to be back down to around 25 minutes. What we know about Powell is that he will be a bucket off the bench tonight. He has scored at least 25 fantasy points in his last eight games.
Mason Plumlee, Los Angeles Clippers
Mason Plumlee will get the start once again with Ivca Zubac sitting out with a calf injury. He will draw the primary matchup in Nikola Jokic which will be a tough matchup. However, we know he will get close to 30 minutes tonight and he posted a 10-10 double-double last game. Plumlee is a solid play at his price point.
Dart Throws
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Denver Nuggets
I'm not sure this counts as a dart throw, but he is priced under $5,000. KCP is a must-play at that price point, however. We know he is going to get close to 30 minutes and he has not scored fewer than 17 fantasy points in his last seven games. He also had two games over 30 fantasy points during that span. I like KCP tonight.
Reggie Jackson, Denver Nuggets
Could we see a Reggie Jackson revenge game? Jackson started for the Clippers for most of the season but ultimately fell out of the rotation at some point. If you believe in that narrative, why not play him at his price tonight? He is getting close to 20 minutes at the backup point guard spot, and if he gets going, we know he can catch fire. I do not hate the play tonight.
Nicolas Batum, Los Angeles Clippers
Batum is getting all the backup center minutes with Zubac out, and he saw 38 minutes last game when the Clippers decided to go small. He won't see those minutes tonight but the guy scored 36 fantasy points while knocking down 5-10 three-pointers. Batum should definitely cross your mind tonight.
