A night after seeing two NBA playoff series end in 4-1 fashion, the Houston Rockets were able to avoid the same fate by taking down the Golden State Warriors in Game 5. Rockets vs. Warriors Predictions For Tonight NBA Playoffs Game 6, 5/2

After starting down 8-5, the Rockets took off for 15 unanswered points for a 20-8 lead before the first commercial break of Wednesday night’s Game 5. It was at that point that fans could have easily tuned out and not missed much at all.

There were no problems in Houston with three different starters scoring 24+ points while also completely bottling up Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler. With the series now heading back to Chase Center, it’s difficult to imagine seeing Amen Thompson and company with another 30-point lead midway through the second quarter, but can they still force a Game 7?

Frankly, with how much of a rollercoaster each team can put us on, we’re going to be focusing the best bet from our Rockets vs. Warriors predictions on a player prop market, much like we’ve done throughout this series.

Houston Rockets: Amen Thompson Takes Off

Until Wednesday night, the Warriors had been 24-11 in clinching scenarios under head coach Steve Kerr. However, with a 76-49 halftime deficit, they tied their worst under Kerr, and that was largely thanks to Amen Thompson. That’s right - not Jalen Green, Fred VanVleet, Alperen Sengun or otherwise.

Not to take anything away from those guys and how Houston shot an amazing 69% in the first half, but Amen Thompson took over in so many different aspects of the game. He was the first since 1993 to record 25 points along with 5+ steals and 3+ blocks in a playoff game. Admittedly, that’s a very specific combo, but his energy on both ends of the court is the point.

Golden State Warriors: No Wasted Time Waving The White Flag

While the Rockets launched themselves to a win on Wednesday thanks to three starters scoring 24 or more points, the Warriors' woes came thanks to their superstars doing the exact opposite. Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler scored a COMBINED 21 points, and neither of them scored a single point until a few minutes before halftime.

The terribly slow start led to such a deficit that Steve Kerr threw in the white flag supremely early, sitting his starters midway through the third quarter! While the fewer minutes certainly played a role in this, the Golden State starters scored just a combined 40 points, which was the second-fewest in a playoff game since 1971.

Rockets vs. Warriors Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines

With the series now back at Chase Center, it’s no surprise to see Golden State as clear favorites in the latest Rockets vs. Warriors odds for Game 6:

Rockets vs. Warriors Best Bet: Stephen Curry Over 24.5 Points (Use His Player Card At Sleeper Fantasy)

When we saw this series at Golden State, we had Stephen Curry points and Fred VanVleet assist props come through for our Rockets vs. Warriors predictions, so we’re not going to fight against what works when it comes to our best bet for Game 6.

When Steph came through for us in Game 3, this line was set at 26.5 points, and we’ve seen it as high at 28.5 in this series alone. As arguably the best shooter in NBA history, it certainly makes sense, and we aren’t as scared as oddsmakers seem to be after Game 5’s disappointing night.

If we faded Stephen Curry after any speed bump, we’d have missed a lot of picks, so we’re not going to start now. After all, he can get more than half of this line in just a handful of possessions. That’s exactly what he did when this series first went to Golden State thanks to his five made threes en route to a 36-point night.

Stephen Curry even opened this series with a 31-point performance, so if anything, being able to rest almost the entire second half on Wednesday only makes us more confident in this pick. For a guy known for running several miles a game running through screens, playing just 23 minutes compared to his usual 40 minutes is a welcomed break.

We’re not saying that he was happy about the situation as a whole, but now back at home, it’s time to close things out. Even if they don’t, we still have Stephen Curry over 24.5 points (add his player card to a Sleeper Fantasy lineup) as the best bet from our Rockets vs. Warriors picks.
