The NASCAR Cup Series continues its run as the most talented stock car drivers in the world will run some laps around Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for the Kwik Trip 250! This marks the second straight year that NASCAR has run Road America for the Fourth of July weekend. NASCAR is coming off a very wet race in Nashville last weekend that saw a lengthy delay, but Chase Elliott eventually took home the checkered flag. This week we’re on one of the longest road courses and Elliott worked his way through the field a year ago to win this very race. Can he do it again and become the first Cup Series driver to secure three wins in the 2022 season? Or does Trackhouse Racing see their dominance of road courses continue with either Ross Chastain or Daniel Suarez score another win?

Sunday’s race will be run over 62 laps in 15-15-32 lap segments. Pit strategy will be huge. Staying out at the end of stage one could be a disaster for a pole sitter if they choose to follow that strategy. That means we only get 43.4 dominator points at the absolute most. With cautions that’ll likely go down. It’s highly unlikely we see the kind of chaos that we witnessed during Xfinity’s race. The Cup drivers have more patience and maturity than was exhibited between one particular driver in that series so we shouldn’t see multiple drivers wreck due to the stupidity of another driver. But still, finishing position and PD are what we’re looking for. It’s entirely possible to build the optimal lineup without having the race winner. Last year’s race saw five drivers starting outside the top 30 finish inside the top 12 and additionally and eight drivers gained double-digit PD spots. Passing is very possible here. It’s a long, but broad sweeping track with plenty of points to pass. Additionally, the surface is very old so it’ll eat at tires a bit, so pit strategy and managing tires will be crucial.
