Daytona! As befits the drama of the regular season finale, the Coke Zero Sugar 400, we’re going racing Saturday night under the lights. This is the last shot for drivers to make the playoffs and with the Kurt Busch news on Thursday, there are now two spots open for the last of the 16-car field. That should make some strategies in the waning laps pretty interesting for the whole of the field.
Weekend Weather for Daytona International Speedway
They’re racing in Florida, right? Florida in the summer too, right? Thus, we shouldn’t be shocked to see quite a bit of rain in the forecast for Friday and Saturday. That means that we could see qualifying canceled for both Xfinity and Cup Series races if they can’t get the track dried in a reasonable time. We could also see delays for the races too. Don’t be surprised if the race is run Sunday afternoon rather than Saturday night for the Cup series. That shouldn’t change the style of racing at all. If NASCAR moves the race before lineup lock, DraftKings and FanDuel will move lock to the new time, however, if they don’t move the race until after lock, changes won’t be allowed to lineups on either side.
Coke Zero Sugar 400 NASCAR DFS Strategy
Pure chaos. That’s what we’re expecting on Saturday night, or perhaps Sunday, as is typically the case at plate tracks. The style of racing at this track — pack racing — breeds a lot of cautions and big wrecks. What does that mean for DFS? Well, basically this race is a free-for-all for DFS and one that sees us build lineups by basically throwing things at a dartboard. Over the last four plate races this year, the optimal lineups have been filled with a quarter of the drivers starting in the top-10, just over a quarter starting 11-20, and just under half starting 20-40 in the field. The name of the game here is to have your drivers avoid the wrecks because simply be being on the track late, they’re going to get good finishing positions. That being said, that’s hard to do. The best advice is to build lineups that spread out your exposure to any one driver to less than 30-percent and don’t just stack the back either.
Analysts Note: Any driver is playable this weekend. The drivers listed in the playbook are simply the ones that have been the best for DFS over the last several plate races. That being said, chaos will happen and so having a lot of different drivers in builds is the best use of lineups.
