The best day in racing caps off with the Coca-Cola 600. The longest race on the NASCAR schedule, the 600-mile race is quite the challenge of drivers and machines. The 14th race of the 2022 Cup Series schedule happens under the lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The 1.5-mile layout is the home of NASCAR and one that every team and driver are quite familiar with. The 400 laps around it though, will cause equipment, teams, and drivers alike to have issues they’re not accustomed to having. The Coke 600 is easily the most grueling race on the schedule.

Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR DFS Strategy

This race has a ton of scoring potential. Not only do these drivers have 400 laps to move up through the field. They also have that many laps to lead and load up on fastest laps. We’ve seen one driver lead more than 100 laps in each of the last five Coke 600s and we’ve seen an average of two drivers lead 50 or more while nearly four lead 20 or more. In terms of fastest laps we’ve seen nearly nine a race rack up double-digit fast laps. While nearly 11.5 drivers move up at least six spots in PD race and four jump double-digits. There’s a downside to it being so long. It gives ample chances for drivers to be lapped. In fact, just over 15 drivers on average finish on the lead lap in the last five Coke 600s. So what’s the strategy here? Well looking at the charts below, you’ll notice that getting drivers that are starting up front is key, but so are picking the right guys starting in the back of the field. This year, that’s been a crapshoot with the tire situation and rest assured, tires will play a role on Sunday night.

The following charts show the average scores for DraftKings and FanDuel over the last five Coke 600s regardless of driver in each starting spot. They are to show the strategy for DFS and not necessarily mean a hard-and-fast rule for scoring.

Before you freak out, of course Kyle Larson is playable. He’ll be chalk and should be. There’s no reason to include him in the playbook at that point. For GPPs, he is a fade candidate in the hopes that he tags the wall and/or has a tire go down but you are playing with a bit of fire.
