Welcome to St. Louis! Well near it anyway. The Enjoy Illinois 300 is next up on the NASCAR Cup schedule this Sunday — and on a new track too. Well new for the Cup Series. World Wide Technology Raceway, or Gateway as it’s also known, is the host venue this weekend for the first time in the Cup Series, despite having been used in the lower two divisions previously. The track layout is a unique one, but similar enough to some other tracks to get a good feel for the racing and car setups. It’s also close enough to use some of the same DFS strategy as well. Let’s go ahead and dig into the Enjoy Illinois 300 DFS strategy and then breakdown the top plays for DraftKings and FanDuel.
Enjoy Illinois 300 NASCAR DFS Strategy
So what to do with a new track on the NASCAR Cup schedule? Well, we look at similar tracks based on size and banking and layout. When looking at that you get Richmond, Phoenix, a bit of Nashville, and New Hampshire. All of those tracks have something in common — track position is king. We’ve heard that same sentiment from the drivers as well. During practice and qualifying several drivers stated that passing would be hard and it’s like a “big Martinsville” according to Chase Elliott. That means that we might be in for a laps led and finish position DFS build this week. With 240 laps in the race, there’s not a ton of laps led to be had but enough to be a difference maker much like we see at Phoenix. Getting lapped here will also be an issue. It’s a short track, quick lap times, and at the tracks likes what this one is similar to, lapping is an issue. That will cap some PD upside for sure.
Average Points By Starting Spot
The following charts show the average points scored for DraftKings and FanDuel for each starting spot over the last five similar races. The similar races including Richmond, Phoenix, and Nashville. The charts shouldn’t be taken as a hard and fast rule especially with the tracks not being exactly like World Wide Technology Raceway. Drivers are not taken into account in the starting spots.
