Talladega and the craziness it brings is up this week for the GEICO 500. It’s third, sort of, plate race this year with Daytona and Atlanta also using this style of pack racing. Drafting and avoiding wrecks are what’s tested this week and the drivers who are the best at it, along with the luckiest, are the ones with the best chance of winning. So if it’s chaos and luck are involved, is there a strategy to succeed at DFS this week? Let’s look at that.
Talladega DFS Strategy
We’ve heard over the last few years the idea of stacking the back but that’s not actually the best strategy to use. As we dive into previous races in this style of racing, and specifically at Talladega, there’s a better strategy to use. Building your lineups with the bulk of the drivers starting between P11 and P30 leads to the best scoring possibilities, usually. Over the last 10, non-shortened, races here, on average less than one driver starting inside the top-10 makes the optimal lineups while 2.5 starting between 21-30 make it. Also, basically the same number of drivers starting outside the top-30 make the optimal lineups as drivers starting between 11-20. It’s also a race where we can leave between 5-10K in salary on the table, and more on FanDuel, and feel safe about doing so.
