EchoPark Automotive 400 Playbook: NASCAR Playoffs Arrive In Texas

Published: Sep 23, 2023
The NASCAR DFS Cup Series kicks off the round of 12 from Texas Motor Speedway! This legitimately might be the worst track on the schedule if we’re being honest. NASCAR even shortened this race from 500 miles to 400. The fans and drivers have voiced their displeasure. The racing just hasn’t been very good. And on top of that we have Talladega and the Charlotte Roval coming up. Truthfully, it’s just an odd trio of tracks for the Round of 12. But we’ve seen drivers break through here. Kyle Busch avoided the first winless season of his career a few years ago by winning this race. Austin Dillon stole a win here a couple years ago. While the racing may not be the greatest, we still have an opportunity to make some money with our NASCAR DFS contests.
Texas Motor Speedway is a 1.5-mile intermediate that is one of those “cookie cutter” intermediates. It’s most similar in size and shape to Charlotte, but Kansas and Vegas are similar in shape as well. Even Michigan, which is a higher speed intermediate track, is a good option to pull data from. The downside is that since Texas was rebuilt, the racing has been sub-par with the single groove that benefits the race leader. Passing is difficult. However, the racing conditions are shaping up to parallel last year’s race. And by that, it’ll be hot and humid in North Texas. This track will be slick and we have a new tire combination as well. Keep an eye on the weather because this could be a race impacted by rain and storms. But even if there is rain and a lengthy delay, that may just lend itself to more humidity and an even slicker track.
