Saturday baseball is, well, never ending. Games start at 1 pm EST while the final first pitch of the day generally comes sometime after 10 pm EST. It’s an amazing day if you’re someone who consumes baseball all the time. Saturday is what Sundays are for NFL fans. With all that being said, let’s take a look at some of our favorite props of the day.

Kyle Gibson OVER 76.5 pitches

I went back and took a look at Aaron Nola’s pitch count from Friday’s opener and it was 76 pitches. Of course, it was. The next step I took was how many pitches Kyle Gibson threw in his final Spring Training game. He threw 72 pitches against the Yankees.

This lines him up for an even bigger number, likely into the 80s. If you also follow what happened to Nola is that he was cruising for six innings and then the seventh inning started and he served up a three-run home run that cut the lead from 7-1 to 7-4, so he was pulled after that.

The Athletics are projected to have one of the league’s worst offenses considering they parted ways with both Matt Olson and Matt Chapman, their two biggest threats each and every time they stepped into the box. Look for Gibson to control this game and hit the over on this pitch count.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. OVER 1.5 total bases

It was a magical year for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in 2021 and big things are expected of him in 2022 once again. Guerrero did most of his work against right-handed pitching and Rangers starter Dane Dunning happens to pitch with his right arm.

Guerrero, against right-handed pitching last year, had a .317 AVG, .400 OBP, .620 SLG%, .424 wOBA and 37 home runs for good measure. What is not to absolutely love in those?! His match-up against Dunning is very solid for righty swingers as Dunning allowed righties a .271 AVG, .334 wOBA, and a 34% hard-hit rate.

Let’s not ignore that this game is being played in the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Dunning had a 6.39 ERA on the road, compared to a 3.09 ERA at home, while notching a .299 AVG, .525 SLG%, and .391 wOBA.

Other(s) I like:

  • Luis Severino OVER 62.5 pitches; manager Aaron Boone said Severino will be limited to 65-70 pitches, so we’ve literally been told he *should* as long as he pitches well enough, go over this number.
