We have a LOT of day baseball today and we’re diving into all of the MLB Underdog player props to pick out our favorites. We have some elite match-ups for the hitters and also some exploitative match-ups for pitchers as well. Let’s jump into the top Underdog Fantasy plays for Thursday's MLB slate!
MLB Underdog Player Props
José Quintana UNDER 4.5 strikeouts
We have quite an interesting spot here considering José Quintana hasn’t been missing many bats and Milwaukee has done a good job putting the ball in play. Against left-handed pitching on the year, the Brewers are striking out at a 21.6% clip, which is the 10th lowest rate in the league.
On the flip side, we have Quintana who has made three starts and hasn’t struck out more than three opponents in any of them. He has just a 13.6% K-rate, which is down from where it’s been the last two seasons by over 50%. In both 2020 and ‘21, he induced swinging strikes on 10.9% or better of his pitches. This year it’s at just 8.2%.
If Quintana isn’t missing bats, he’s pitching to a lot of contact and there is a reason that this is a -140 on the under on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Garrett Cooper OVER 5.5 fantasy points
If you look at the last few seasons for Garrett Cooper, he has loved his time in the box when a left-handed pitcher has been on the mound. He hit .344 with a .971 OPS last year, .350 with an OPS north of 1.100 in 2020, and this year he’s batting .273 against them in a very limited sample size.
Cooper gets a juicy match-up against Patrick Corbin who has struggled mightily over the past year-plus, especially against righties. This year, right-handed hitters are batting .362 with a .511 SLG% and a .422 wOBA. Not much different than last year where he allowed 28 2B, 35 HR, .302 AVG, .562 SLG%, and a .387 wOBA.
I love the over here on this fantasy point total. One double gets us there and I think a lot more than just a double could happen here.
