MLB DFS Value Vault May 5: Jose Uriquidy Set to Bounce Back

Welcome to the MLB Value Vault. My job here at DFS Alarm is to help the FAmily improve their DFS baseball lineups and add some green to their life. Tonight’s main slate consists of six games offered by DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 6:45 pm EST and five games by Yahoo Fantasy locking at 7:05 pm EST. We get a nice break from Coors Field plus have some high-priced top-tier pitching that may make it a bit difficult to put together that winning lineup. Well, that’s what the Value Vault is for, so let’s get this open and see what top point per dollar plays we have on tonight’s MLB DFS slate…

MLB DFS Value Pitchers

$7,800 DraftKings / $6,800 FanDuel / $36 Yahoo

José Urquidy is not having a great season, but this may be the “get right” game that he needs. The right-hander comes into this game with a 5.95 ERA/1.42 WHIP and only 13 strikeouts in 19.2 innings. He is a much better pitcher than this year’s numbers show (3.62 ERA/0.98 WHIP in 2021) and an offense like Detroit is just what he ends to get back on track. The Tigers are striking out a slate worst 25.7% against RHP with a team 14.5% SWStr% and 29% Whf/Sw%. With a team ISO of .082 and .266wOBA against RHP, you can’t help but like Urquidy’s upside tonight.

$5,800 DraftKings / $7,300 Fanduel / $33 Yahoo

This play is more about the matchup and price. After four starts his maximum number of pitches has only been 79 but Chris Archer is the type of pitcher that has taken advantage of this new “dead-ball” era. His high usage of sliders (49.8%) and 4-seam fastballs (43.4%) have been hammering the strike zone at high rates leading to a serviceable 2.93 ERA/1.30 WHIP. Now he gets an Oriole offense that is striking out at a 24.9% clip to right-handed pitching and can lay an egg any day of the week.

MLB DFS Value Hitters

$2,900 DraftKings / $3,600 FanDuel

Even after an 0-for-5 yesterday, Alec Bohm is slashing .297/.355/.438 with a .793 OPS. He has a tough matchup tonight with Taijuan Walker who hasn’t allowed a run in his first two starts but Bohm has been inserted into the two hole in the lineup sandwiched between Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper. He is in the top 5% of all of baseball in exit velocity (93); XBA (.365); XSLG (.609); and XwOBA (.433) and has drastically cut down his strikeout rate to a career-best 14.9% with a 10.2%-barrel rate. Bohm is a nice tourney value tonight on all sites.

$2,500 DraftKings / $2,400 FanDuel / $13 Yahoo

Trevor Larnach has been making the most of his opportunities in the Twins offense. He has hits in six of his last eight games and got to hit in the cleanup spot last night with Max Kepler out. Larnach got the job done going 2-for-4 to raise his slash to .300/.348/.433. He now has four double-digit fantasy point games in his last eight and is hitting .385 in that span. Tonight he gets the LvR advantage over Spenser Watkins and his subpar 5.93 xFIP and 13% strikeout rate going back to last season.

$3,000 DraftKings / $2,700 FanDuel / $12 Yahoo

Jose Altuve got injured last night and that means Chas McCormick could be back in the leadoff spot. Tarik Skubal will be on the mound for the Tigers and even though he’s a talented young pitcher he has struggled with RH bats- .241 wOBA; 42% flyball and 41.7% hard hit rate. McCormick comes in with a .202 ISO and 48.9% hard hit and had hits in all five games while leading off during Altuve’s stint on the IL last month. With a .304 batting average against southpaws on the season McCormick is a value play tonight.

$2,700 DraftKings / $3,000 FanDuel / $11 Yahoo

Even though I listed Chris Archer as a value play – he is a GPP only due to some negative regression that can be right around the corner. Trey Mancini is a bargain on all sites and even though he started out slow there is light at the end of the tunnel. He has hits in five of his last seven games played with four of them being multi-hit plus his first bomb of the season. Last night was more evidence that his swing is coming back after he went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Mancini makes a strong tourney play tonight as a one-off or part of an Orioles stack.
