MLB DFS Value Plays August 12: Top DraftKings and FanDuel Picks
Tonight’s MLB DFS coverage is for the big ten-game main slate that starts at 7:05 pm ET on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Starting pitching is headlined by NL Cy Young contenders Zac Gallen and Spencer Strider. We do not have Coors Field on the slate, so you don’t have to keep that in mind when setting lineups. Ronald Acuna Jr. and Shohei Ohtani are the most expensive hitters at our disposal. James Grande is on the MLB DFS Playbook today. Make sure to give that a read and don’t forget to check out the MLB Lineups page, Vegas Odds, and all of our MLB DFS Tools. Let’s dive into some of my favorite value options of the day and some we can fit into our cash and tournament lineups!
MLB DFS Value Pitcher
Cole Ragans, Kansas City Royals (DraftKings: $5,500 / FanDuel: $6,000)
Why is he priced here? Stay with me on this, he was $6,600 two starts ago, fired six shutout innings with eight strikeouts and then dropped to $5,200. In that start he pitched 6.2 innings of one-run ball while striking out 11. Now his price is still just $5,500? He is going to be an extremely popular play today and for good reason. He looks like a totally different pitcher so far on the Royals and has scored 28.7 and 32 fantasy points on DraftKings over those last two starts.
MLB DFS Value Hitters
Ke’Byran Hayes, 3B, Pittsburgh Pirates (DraftKings: $3,300 / FanDuel: $2,800)
Hayes is scorching right now, scoring 25, 24, 19, and 14 fantasy points on DraftKings over his last four games. He has three home runs, ten RBI, and eight hits in that span. He has been incredible at home this season, hitting .329 with a .914 OPS, compared to hitting just .183 with a .512 OPS on the road. He has always hit lefties well and tonight he faces a lefty in Brandon Williamson who has a 4.54 ERA and has given up 13 home runs in just 75.1 innings of work.
Brice Turang, OF, Milwaukee Brewers (DraftKings: $3,000 / FanDuel: $2,400)
Speaking of hot bats, we also have Turang, who is hitting .344 with two home runs and three stolen bases over his last ten games. He now has six home runs and 14 steals on the year, giving us a bit of upside in a variety of ways. He faces Jesse Scholtens, who has pitched pretty well this season, but isn’t someone scaring me off a hot bat like the one that Turang has right now. He has also pitched worse at home with a 4.02 ERA and .302 BAA, compared to 2.62 and .226 on the road.
MJ Melendez, OF, Kansas City Royals (DraftKings: $3,200 / FanDuel: $2,900)
Sticking with our trend today of players who are swinging it well right now, we have Melendez. He is hitting .278 with a 1.028 OPS over his last ten games while swatting FOUR home runs and swiping a bag in that timeframe. He now has a dozen home runs and six steals on the year. The fact he is facing a lefty may have people off playing him, but Melendez has pretty close splits this season, slashing .235/.288/.641 against lefties, compared to .219/.304/.391 against righties.
