MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks May 24

Aaron Judge, New York Yankees – OVER 1.5 Total Bases

Breaking news: Aaron Judge is really good at hitting baseballs. Oh, you knew that already? Well, then, let’s all back his total bases prop tonight. The New York Yankees slugger is scorching hot at the plate right now with eight home runs over the past nine games while hitting .382 with a .909 slugging percentage over the past 15 contests. He’s also gone deep in three of the past four games, including last night. Judge has thus gone over 1.5 total bases in seven of the past nine games. Even though he can be a bit dependent on the homer to go over the total bases prop, we’re still targeting his bat tonight. Judge will face Baltimore Orioles right-hander Tyler Wells, who’s been solid this year with a 2.94 ERA. However, Wells has given up 10 home runs over his eight starts so far and his 4.64 FIP suggests some negative regression. Plus, Judge is 8-for-17 (.471) in his career against Wells, including three homers and a double.

Justin Turner, Boston Red Sox – OVER 1.5 Total Bases

As always, we want to take MLB BvP numbers with a grain of salt when targeting MLB player props. In the case of Justin Turner vs. Tyler Anderson, though, the stats are too juicy to ignore. Turner is batting .500 (18-for-36) with three homers and five doubles in his career against Anderson. That isn’t a small sample size, either. Turner faced Anderson a ton when they both played in the NL West, and the hitter definitely has the upper hand in this matchup. As for Turner, he’s been up and down this season with the Boston Red Sox, having just a .267 BA overall and a .240 BA over the past seven games. At least he’s on the positive end of his splits tonight, as Turner is hitting .291 vs. left-handed pitchers this year. Anderson, meanwhile, has struggled to a 5.27 ERA, 5.83 FIP, and 1.62 WHIP with the Los Angeles Angels so far and has allowed a .298 BA to righty hitters.
