MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks June 7

Ryan McMahon, Colorado Rockies – OVER 8.0 Fantasy Points

When browsing MLB BvP data today, Ryan McMahon is one of the top hitters in a favorable matchup. The Colorado Rockies infielder is hitting .360 (9-for-25) with a .970 OPS off of San Francisco Giants starter Logan Webb in their careers. Of course, we always take BvP numbers with a grain of salt. But some other stats and trends back up McMahon having a good night at the plate tonight. First off, tonight’s matchup is at home in Coors Field, where McMahon is hitting .300 with a .947 OPS this season compared to a .229 BA and .715 OPS on the road. He has better career splits at home in the Rockies’ hitter-friendly park, too. McMahon is also swinging a hot bat right now with a .321 BA over the past seven games and .362 BA over the past 15 games. He has eight multi-hit performances in the past 12 contests and boasts 21 hits, 17 RBI, and 11 runs scored over the past 15 games combined. Plus, we get McMahon vs. a right-handed pitcher, whom he has much better splits against. Meanwhile, Webb is a tough matchup but the Giants righty has a career 4.59 ERA in Coors Field and has worse numbers on the road this season than at home.

Jaime Barria, Los Angeles Angels – OVER 4.5 Strikeouts

When you hear the name Jaime Barria, strikeouts aren’t the first thing you think of. However, that’s exactly the prop we’re targeting with the Los Angeles Angels pitcher tonight. Barria will be making his third start of the season after being used out of the bullpen for much of the year. In his two starts so far, the right-hander struck out six in both outings. He tossed five strong innings in both starts as well and the Angels even let him go 90 pitches deep last time out, which was a week ago. Barria is well-rested for this one and has a favorable matchup to rack up Ks again. The Chicago Cubs have a high 29.1% strikeout rate vs. right-handed pitching over the past two weeks and a 31.7% K rate vs. righties over the past week. Overall this season, the Cubs have a 24% K rate against right-handers. Barria is averaging exactly one strikeout per inning this season as both a starter and reliever, so we should get 5+ punchouts if he goes five innings.
