Underdog Fantasy MLB Picks: Sunday, 3/29
Jesus Luzardo MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 6.5 Strikeouts
Jesus Luzardo had a somewhat inconsistent 2025 campaign, but there were still plenty of positives in his first season with the Philadelphia Phillies. The left-hander finished with a 2.92 ERA and 1.22 WHIP, but he racked up 216 strikeouts – tied for fourth-most in the MLB alongside Paul Skenes. That swing-and-miss ability will be key in his first outing of this year.
The Texas Rangers are vulnerable against left-handed pitching. They struck out 10 times against Phillies southpaw Cristopher Sanchez on Thursday, reinforcing a trend from last season. In 2025, Texas posted a .225 batting average and .286 wOBA vs. lefties, ranking near the bottom of the league in both categories.
Luzardo enters this season in good form after an impressive Spring Training. He recorded a 2.70 ERA over 4 appearances, striking out 19 batters across 16.2 innings. That momentum could carry over against a Rangers lineup that also just fanned 13 times against Philadelphia pitching on Saturday. That included seven strikeouts from starter Aaron Nola, too.
Pitching at home has been another strength for Luzardo. Last season, he struck out at least seven batters in 11 of 16 home outings. That includes a streak of seven straight home starts with seven or more Ks to close the regular season, during which he averaged 8.6 strikeouts. Luzardo posted a 31.0% K rate and a 2.50 FIP at home last season as well.
Chase DeLauter MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBIs
Chase DeLauter is quickly making a name for himself. The Cleveland Guardians rookie launched two home runs on Opening Day, then followed it up by going deep again on both Friday and Saturday. That makes four homers across his first three MLB games, with at least one in each contest.
While this kind of power surge won’t last forever, it’s hard to ignore just how locked in DeLauter is right now. The former top prospect was also dominant in Spring Training, hitting .459 with a 1.373 OPS. He’s clearly carried that momentum into the regular season, and it’s resulting in long ball after long ball.
DeLauter will get a decent matchup against Seattle Mariners starter Emerson Hancock. The right-hander struggled in 2025, posting a 4.90 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. He also didn’t fare much better at home with a 4.98 ERA. Hancock allowed an .844 OPS and .494 slugging percentage to left-handed hitters in 2025, setting up well for DeLauter to stay hot at the plate.
