MLB Opening Day weekend is here and after a solid start this afternoon we look to attack this MLB player prop board over on PrizePicks for the late slate. We've talked about it a lot in both discord and in this very article about how we like to target these pitcher props early on and there are a few that are on my radar tonight!

Joe Musgrove Over 5.0 Strikeouts
Through two games against the Diamondbacks, the Padres starting pitchers have yet to allow a hit. Last night Sean Manaea tossed seven innings of shutout while striking out seven. Musgrove is a high-upside strikeout pitcher, posting a 10.1 K/9 strikeout rate last season. The one minor concern here would be pitch count as it seems like most teams are being a bit cautious with their starting pitchers to begin the year given the shortened spring training but I trust Musgrove to get it done here tonight. Musgrove averaged 6.3 strikeouts per game last season and hit this prop in over 60-percent of his starts.

Tony Gonsolin Over 4.0 Strikeouts
Gonsolin is in the rotation to start the season as he comes off a 2021 season that saw him make 13 starts over 15 games of action. He was 4-1 with a 3.23 ERA while posting a 10.5 K/9. Gonsolin was not one to pitch overly deep into games last season but he was still a rather efficient strikeout pitcher. He finished with at least four strikeouts in nine of his 15 appearances and he hit the mark in any outing where he pitched at least four full innings. I'm banking on him not being on too much of a limit here because the four strikeouts is a number he shouldn't have trouble hitting given his skillset.

Chris Bassitt Over 4.0 Strikeouts
Bassitt posted a career-best 9.1 K/9 last season for the Athletics and will be making his season debut for the Mets tonight against the Nationals. Last season, Bassitt had just three starts where he finished with less than four strikeouts. So far, both Mets starters have hit their strikeout props against Washington with Megill and Scherzer hitting the number. Bassitt averaged a strikeout per inning during the spring and the Nationals lineup certainly has some holes in it that he can attack. As long as he doesn't get pulled too early and he can navigate his way around Juan Soto I don't see this number being too much of a problem.
