PrizePicks MLB Top Plays

Jordan Montgomery Over 4.5 Strikeouts

We get a lefty on the mound tonight against the Baltimore Orioles and while the sample size is only a handful of games long there is no team with a higher strikeout rate this season than the O's at 30.4-percent. Against left-handed pitching, Baltimore has the third-highest strikeout rate at 35.2-percent. Montgomery had his first start cut short due to a knee injury that isn't expected to impact him during tonight's start but in that outing, he had four strikeouts in just 3.1 innings. Sportbooks list the over on this strikeout prop at -165 tonight so you know what the betting favorite is.

Miles Mikolas Under 3.5 Strikeouts

Yesterday we took the under on Casey Mize at 3.5 strikeouts and that came through. Tonight we take a look at a pitcher who has an even lower career strikeout rate than Mize in Cardinals righty Miles Mikolas. In his first outing of the season Mikolas struck out just one-hitter over 3.2 innings while throwing 77 pitches. Mikolas has a career K/9 of just 6.6 and last season he pitched to a 6.2 K/9. Tonight he faces a Brewers team that ranks 17th in strikeout rate at just 23.1-percent on the year against right-handed pitching. Brewers are also -155 favorites in this matchup tonight and the under 8.5 runs is a -115 favorite. This is looking like a game where Mikolas struggles and could turn in a repeat performance of his season debut.

First Inning Runs Over 0.5 Runs

I know there is a lot of controversies these days when it comes to the First Inning bets being a bit of a “sucker” bet for those who are looking for instant gratification but that doesn't mean that there aren't spots to play it and tonight we may have that spot in the matchup between the Angels and Rangers. Currently, on DraftKings Sportsbook, the Over 0.5 first-inning run line is at -165 which is the overwhelming favorite on the board. The Angels are starting left-handed pitcher Reid Detmers while the Rangers are going with an opener approach using Matt Bush to start the game against the Angels. For Texas, a first-inning run has been allowed by their staff in all but two games this season which included the Angels scoring two runs in the first inning last night.
