We have an eight-game MLB DFS main slate on Wednesday, August 16th, on DraftKings and FanDuel. It’s a fun slate with a lot of good pitchers spanning from Clayton Kershaw, Luis Castillo, and Blake Snell. There are plenty of good stacks to boot as the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, and Atlanta Braves should be fairly popular. Be sure to check out all of our tools including the MLB Lineups page, MLB DFS Projections – powered by FanJections –, MLB DFS Ownership, and all of the rest of our tools HERE! Let's dive into today's playbook, core plays, and top stacks of the day!

MLB DFS Weather Center

Chicago White Sox @ Chicago Cubs

The weather is fine, but there is wind blowing out to left field at 10 MPH and later in the game, it’s 15+. Good hitting weather.

Seattle Mariners @ Kansas City Royals

When it’s hot in Kansas City the ball flies. When it’s hot and there are 10 MPH winds blowing out it’s even better.

Favorite Starters to Use for DFS Lineups

Kevin Gausman, Toronto Blue Jays

As well as the Phillies have done against lefties since the break, the same cannot be said against righties. They’ve struggled ranking 19th in OPS and 17th in wOBA while posting a 24.1% K-rate, which ranks 10th. Gausman has 183 Ks in 139 innings this year and has as much upside as anyone else on this slate.

Blake Snell, San Diego Padres

I’m adding Snell here because Viva Las Vegas LOVES him today. On the main slate, he has the highest strikeout odds, and second-highest win odds, the over 17.5 outs is a -140 favorite, and his implied runs of 1.5 is barely plus-money. The field is also loving Blake Snell as he’s the most popular play of the slate. Bonus points for him pitching in his home ballpark too, which is a great pitching environment.

Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers

I’ll give the Brewers credit that they’ve been better against left-handed pitching of late. That being said, they still rank 26th this year in OPS and 23rd in wOBA. They also have a 26% K-rate against southpaws too. Kershaw looked sharp in his return and should be extended a little more here, possibly to 80 pitches. We know how efficient he can be even if there is some type of limit, which we should expect.

Charlie Morton, Atlanta Braves

We’re definitely in the midst of Morton’s worst stretch of the year and that’s concerning because of his age. That said, he faces off against the Yankees who have struggled for some time against right-handed pitching. Since the All-Star break, the Yankees are 24th in wOBA and 27th in OPS and that’s accompanied by a 24.9% K-rate. Morton’s one of the slate’s biggest favorites and is always live for a win due to the offense behind him.

Jon Gray, Texas Rangers

Gray was pitching extremely well and then he wasn’t, but he looked fantastic in his most recent start against the Giants throwing seven scoreless outings. Gray has a fantastic match-up here against the Angels as they’ve struggled lately. Since the All-Star break, they have a 27.9% K-rate and are 20th in wOBA. Gray’s VERY cheap and is in a match-up where he can showcase his strikeout ceiling. He’ll be popular.

Favorite Hitters to Use for DFS Lineups

Cody Bellinger, Chicago Cubs

Love this spot for Bellinger and the Cubs. The Cubs have a massive implied total at 6.3 and there are winds blowing out. Bellinger has been awesome since the start of the second half batting .377 with a 1.087 OPS, .289 ISO, and .455 wOBA. Against righties this year, Bellinger has a .212 ISO and a .383 wOBA. He faces Mike Clevinger who’s struggled mightily with lefties. He has allowed a .216 ISO and a .331 wOBA against them.

Juan Soto, San Diego Padres

Soto has had a pretty solid second half, especially in the power department. Since the All-Star break, Soto has a .933 OPS, .300 ISO, and .391 wOBA. He’s been fantastic against right-handed pitching all year long notching a .274 ISO and a .412 wOBA. Kremer’s been bad against left-handed pitching allowing a .229 ISO and .380 wOBA. Soto’s as good as it gets as a spend-up here.

Trevor Story, Boston Red Sox

Trevor Story has made a career against left-handed pitching and has a good match-up here against MacKenzie Gore. Story, for his career, has a .305/.378/.612 along with a .307 ISO and .411 wOBA against southpaws. Gore has allowed a .199 ISO and a .327 wOBA this year and over the last 30 days, he’s allowed a .272 ISO and a .355 wOBA vs. RHH. Story’s going to hit right in the heart of the order and is a fantastic mid-tier option.

Ezequiel Duran, Texas Rangers

The Rangers make for a verrrrrrrrry interesting stack here against Reid Detmers. Detmers has a solid ceiling because he can miss bats, but he hasn’t been great lately. Righties haven’t hit Detmers as hard as lefties, but they have allowed a .155 ISO and .322 wOBA this year. Over the last 30 days, righties have crushed him to the tune of a .305 ISO and a .471 wOBA. Duran has been great against lefties all year notching a .287 ISO and a .417 wOBA

Ty France, Seattle Mariners

I love the rhythm France is coming into this game in. He had four hits on Tuesday, including his third home run over his last 10 games. Since the start of August, France has turned it on posting a .326 AVG, .628 SLG%, .302 ISO, and .452 wOBA. This is fantastic hitting weather in Kansas City tonight and Kansas City is going with an opener that’s been smacked around and Alec Marsh as the long man and righties have a .328 ISO and .402 wOBA against him.
