MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Starting Pitchers
MLB DFS Top Pitchers
Cristopher Sanchez (PHI)
Analysis: The Padres have been terrible against lefties this season with the second lowest OPS vs. Lefties in the league (.602), with a 23.7% strikeout rate while only batting .213. We loved all those facts when it was against Jesus Luzardo, now that it is against Cristopher Sanchez, we love it even more. He is spendy on a day with great options, but it is for a reason. He should absolutely be the top arm on this slate but a decent margin.
Gavin Williams (CLE)
Analysis: The strikeout stuff from Williams has been elite. He has at least 7 strikeouts in 8 of 11 outings this season (only Jacob Misiorowski has more starts with at least 7 Ks this season). He needs to give up more hits than he has been, but if he can suppress hits against the Nationals along with the big strikeout numbers he could easily be a top scorer on today’s slate.
Kevin Gausman (TOR)
Analysis: Kevin Gausman had a rough stretch there where he didn’t really look like himself after two ridiculous starts to begin the season (21 total strikeouts). Things really looked bad after the Rays start a few weeks ago, but since then in two starts he has given up only one run over 12.2 innings with 12 strikeouts. Now he gets Miami and I think we will continue to see him return to form and build off his 8 strikeouts against Pittsburgh last time out.
MLB DFS Value Pitchers
Michael Soroka (HOU)
Analysis: The strikeouts are not a sure thing with Soroka because he is such a command first pitcher, but he has double-digit strikeouts twice this season and recently struck out 8 in Colorado (though then only struck out 2 at home against the Rockies in his next start). The likelihood of a monster game is less likely than some of the other arms today with flashy stuff but I believe the command enough at this price to take a gamble on him.
Eury Perez (MIA)
Analysis: Eury is basically the opposite of everything I just said about Soroka. He has great stuff but has just not had the command yet and is walking way too many batters. He is consistently getting Ks though and if he can just limit the walks a bit against Toronto he could easily return value for what his price is today.
Top Options For Strikeouts
For a smaller slate we have a ton of high strikeout guys, with a few elite strikeout rates (Williams and Sanchez), and some other solid strikeout rates (Perez, Gilbert, Soroka), and even guys like Kevin Guasman who isn’t on this list but still has plenty of strikeout upside.
Our model identifies these arms as the highest-ceiling plays for Alt-K lines today:
Gavin Willliams 30.3 K% (10.9 K/9)
Cristopher Sanchez 29.1 K% (10.7 K/9)
Eury Perez 25.2 K% (9.7 K/9)
Logan Gilbert: 25.0 K% (9.1 K/9)
Michael Soroka: 24.5 K% (9.3 K/9)
Best Odds For A Win
The following MLB DFS picks offer the best chance of snagging a win today giving you a chance for them to both go deep into the game, stack up some Ks, as well as get those extra points for that win.
- Cristopher Sanchez -117
- Gavin Williams -103
- Logan Gilbert +128
- Michael Soroka +130
- Kevin Gausman +137
MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Stacks & Hitters
MLB DFS Top Hitters
Brewers Bats (Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang, William Contreras, Jake Bauers) (OF, 2B, C, 1B, MIL)
Analysis: I love the Brewers today against Dustin May. May has been pitching to contact relying way too much on getting ground balls and is support a career high 5.00 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. Brewers have the third lowest strikeout rate against righties and are great at making productive contact. This combo is not good for May and it could be a rough one for him today against the Brewers.
Seattle Outfield (Julio Rodriguez, Randy Arozarena, Rob Refsnyder) (OF, SEA)
Analysis: I wrote up the Mariners outfield in Monday’s playbook and their outfield combined for 7 hits, 8 RBIs, and 3 homers. Take your pick of which ones you want, but I don’t mind starting any combo of them (Canzone and Raley likely sit against the lefty). This is another good matchup in Sacramento against Springs and think the hits keep coming for these guys.
MLB DFS Value Hitters
Rhys Hoskins & Brayan Rocchio (1B, CLE)
Analysis: Cleveland could be a solid stack today as well just because they get to face Mikolas (following an opener) who is carrying an over 2 HR/9 right now. Cleveland has a few solid cheap options in this matchup but Rhys Hoskins and Brayan Rocchio are my two of my favorite value bats in this one.
Bryson Stott & Alec Bohm (2B, 3B, PHI)
Analysis: I like the Phillies today and think they are a solid stacking option as well. Obviously, Schwarber and Harper are great options if you want to pay up for them but if you are paying elsewhere maybe just sneak a Bryson Stott and/or Alec Bohm into your lineup.
MLB DFS Top Stacks
Primary Stack: Milwaukee Brewers vs Dustin May (STL RHP)
Why: I talk about it above in my core bats. The Brewers are just set up to be a nightmare for Dustin May here and I don’t see this matchup going well for him.
Primary Stack: Philadelphia Phillies vs Walker Buehler (SD RHP)
Why: The Phillies offense has been getting better, and you have some great bats against another arm I don’t really trust in Walker Buehler. I think you can pivot from Milwaukee and do a big Philly stack or just sprinkle some of them in there with some good cheap bat options as well.
"Contrarian" Stack: Seattle Mariners vs Jeffrey Springs (ATH RHP)
Why: The Mariners stack worked for us against Civale and while I do think Springs is a better pitcher than Civale I do think he is a fairly similar pitcher just a left version at this point and I like betting on Seattle again in this matchup in Sacramento.
"Contrarian" Stack: Cleveland Guardians vs Miles Mikolas (ATH RHP)
Why: Mikolas is just such an easy pitcher to stack against. He doesn’t strike guys out which gives the opportunity for big games if the ball is finding gaps and Mikolas has a career high HR/9 right now which just makes matters even worse (or better) for this matchup, and I don't think the opener makes a huge difference for him.
MLB DFS Lineups: Core MLB DFS Hitters & Pitchers
| The "Chalk" (Popular) | The "Pivot" (Low Owned) | The Winning Logic |
| Gausman (SP, chalk) | Williams (SP, lower owned) | Gausman is getting huge ownership compared to Williams. I like Gausman but easily prefer Williams even if they held the same price-tag. |
| SEA as primary stack (high ownership) | MIL & PHI as contrarian stacks | I love Seattle again, but they are highly owned so if you want to pivot just go fill up with Milwaukee and some Philly bats instead. |
The foundation for every MLB DFS lineup you build today. These are the core MLB DFS picks by position across DraftKings and FanDuel.
- Cristopher Sanchez (SP1)
- Gavin Williams (SP2)
- William Contreras (Core Bat)
- Brice Turang (Core Bat)
