MLB Week 18 Injury Report Update: Pitchers

Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers - Cramps

It was a scary scene when Ohtani fired six straight balls and left the game with the team’s athletic trainer. He stayed in the game and hit, and the team later said that it was just cramps. Phew!

Blake Snell, Los Angeles Dodgers - Shoulder

Snell will be activated from the injured list and make his first MLB start in four months, as he was on the IL with shoulder inflammation.

Bailey Ober, Minnesota Twins - Hip

There still isn’t a definitive date for Ober’s start, but perhaps we'll see him over the weekend for this new look Minnesota team that sold off half the team at the MLB Trade Deadline.

Luis Gil, New York Yankees - Lat

Gil had another solid rehab start earlier this week, striking out seven batters across 4.1 IP. His next start could come with the big league club, perhaps as early as this weekend against Miami.

Shane Bieber, Toronto Blue Jays - Elbow

The Blue Jays acquired Bieber at the deadline, and the veteran righty worked up to 4 IP in his last rehab outing.

Jameson Taillon, Chicago Cubs - Calf

Taillon could begin a rehab assignment this weekend, as he continues to recover from a calf strain.

Kris Bubic, Kansas City Royals - Rotator Cuff

Bubic’s season is over with his left rotator cuff strain. Bubic’s breakout 2025 season ends with a 2.55 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 24.4 K% across 116.1 IP.

Spencer Arrighetti, Houston Astros - Thumb

Arrighetti’s next start is expected to come with the big league club, and Roster Resource has him listed as the Tuesday starter against Miami.

Michael King, San Diego Padres - Shoulder

A rehab assignment could be in store in the coming days for King, who hasn’t pitched since May 18th with his shoulder issue.

Felix Bautista, Baltimore Orioles - Shoulder

Bautista’s absence is expected to be for quite some time, as swelling in his shoulder has not subsided. Corbin Martin could be the leader in the clubhouse for save opportunities moving forward.

Aaron Nola, Philadelphia Phillies - Ankle/Rib

Nola will require at least three rehab starts before returning to the big league rotation, so we can tentatively expect him back in the latter half of August.

MLB Week 18 Injury Report Update: Hitters

Ronald Acuna, Atlanta Braves - Achilles

Acuna is dealing with a Grade 1 calf strain, and his timeline for return is undetermined at this juncture.

Aaron Judge, New York Yankees - Elbow

A return on August 5, the date on which he’s first eligible to return, is still on the table, but Judge would serve as the team’s DH upon his return.

Juan Soto, New York Mets - Foot

Soto is day-to-day with a foot contusion. Fortunately, the X-rays were negative, so it seems to be just a bruise.

Max Muncy, Los Angeles Dodgers - Knee

Muncy began a rehab assignment a couple of days ago, but we could see a return to the big league club at some point in the early part of next week. Blake Perkins figures to be the starting center fielder during Chourio’s absence, but they could use speedster Brandon Lockridge, whom they acquired at the deadline.

Jackson Chourio, Milwaukee Brewers - Hamstring

Chourio is dealing with a right hamstring spasm, and it seems like a trip to the injured list is in his future.

Jacob Wilson, Athletics - Forearm

A fractured forearm will interrupt Wilson’s 2025 season, and he was placed on the injured list.

Jeremy Pena, Houston Astros - Rib

Pena began a rehab assignment a couple of days ago, and he should only need a handful of games before being activated and rejoining the big league club.
