Fantasy Baseball Injury Report This Week

Corbin Burnes is set to miss the rest of the 2025 MLB season as he will undergo Tommy John surgery to address his torn UCL. Fantasy baseball waiver wire darling Mick Abel looks poised to stick in the team’s rotation a bit longer as Aaron Nola is now dealing with some tightness in his side. Potential future fantasy baseball ace Eury Perez will be activated from the injured list to make his 2025 season debut, while the New York Mets are closely watching Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas on their respective rehab assignments. Other notable names in this week’s fantasy baseball injury report are Matthew Liberatore, Tony Gonsolin, and Ezequiel Tovar.

MLB Injury Report: Starting Pitchers

Aaron Nola, Philadelphia Phillies - Ankle/Side

Nola is now dealing with some stiffness in his side. Mick Abel figures to stay in the rotation until Nola is ready to return. But, perhaps longer…

Corbin Burnes, Arizona Diamondbacks - Elbow

Howard Bender and I mentioned on last week’s Caught Stealing that we would be surprised if we saw Burnes again in 2025. Well, unfortunately, we were right, as Burnes has a torn UCL and will require season-ending Tommy John surgery..

Sean Manaea, New York Mets - Oblique

Manaea struggled a bit in his first rehab appearance, but it’s more about health than results at this juncture. He still requires multiple rehab appearances, so we’re still a couple of weeks away from his activation.

Matthew Liberatore, St. Louis Cardinals - Fatigue

No further updates on Liberatore, and the team is sticking with “fatigue-related issues” after reduced velocity in his last outing.

Frankie Montas, New York Mets - Lat

The Mets said that Montas would need a month’s worth of rehab, and if we go off his start date of May 24, we are looking at closer to the end of the month for a potential return.

Tony Gonsolin, Los Angeles Dodgers - Elbow

Another Los Angeles pitcher hits the injured list, oh man! Gonsolin is dealing with some discomfort in his elbow, and he’s shut down from throwing for an “undetermined period,” but the UCL is intact.

Zebby Matthews, Minnesota Twins - Shoulder

Matthews will join fellow right-hander Pablo Lopez on the IL, as Matthews is dealing with a moderate shoulder strain. He won’t throw for two weeks, and the team will evaluate the situation from there.

Ryan Weathers, Miami Marlins - Head

Weathers suffered some friendly fire on a throw from Nick Fortes in between innings. Weathers said he’s “fine” afterwards, so I wouldn’t imagine much disruption to his schedule.

Brandon Woodruff, Milwaukee Brewers - Shoulder/Ankle/Elbow

When he was on the doorstep of returning to Milwaukee’s rotation, again, he took a comebacker off his pitching elbow. It’s just a bruise, which is good news, but next steps haven’t yet been determined.

MLB Injury Report: Relief Pitchers

Luke Weaver, New York Yankees - Hamstring

Weaver received a PRP injection in the hopes that the healing of his hamstring would accelerate.

Lucas Erceg, Kansas City Royals - Back

Erceg’s rehab assignment began, and he’ll likely require an appearance or two before being activated. His last outing came on May 24.

MLB Injury Report: Hitters

Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies - Wrist

Supposedly, this wrist thing has been going on for some time, but he now heads to the injured list with wrist inflammation.

Anthony Volpe, New York Yankees - Elbow

Volpe’s tests came back clean, so it’s just a contusion of his left elbow. He was in the starting lineup on Sunday after sitting on Saturday.

Giancarlo Stanton, New York Yankees - Elbows

We are still on Stanton watch, as a rehab assignment could be coming for him this week.

Jorge Soler, Los Angeles Angels - Groin

Soler is clearly dealing with a groin issue, as he was removed from a game in the middle of last week, and then again a couple of days later. He was not in the lineup on Sunday.

Shea Langeliers, Athletics - Oblique

Langeliers is out “a few weeks” with his strained oblique. Johnny Pereda and Willie MacIver have handled the starts behind the dish since Langeliers has been out.

Ryan Mountcastle, Baltimore Orioles - Hamstring

Mountcastle will miss the next 2-3 months due to his Grade 2 right hamstring strain.

Ezequiel Tovar, Colorado Rockies - Oblique

Tovar was placed on the IL, retroactive to June 3, due to this oblique strain. This is his second stint on the IL this year, the first of which was for a hip issue.
