People either like me, or let's say I annoy them (they might say something stronger, but this is a family show so I'll leave it at that). Whichever group you fall in to you would likely have an interest in taking on Ray Flowers (yes, third person talk here). You either want to beat the smart smug smile off my face, or you might just enjoy competing against Ray (third person again). What if there was a way that you could pit your skills against me, Jeff Mans, Howard Bender, Rick Wolf, Todd Zola and the brains from Fantasy Alarm? That's right. You can take on all the experts at FantasyAlarm thanks to a fantasy baseball league set up by Rotoderby.com - and it won't cost you a penny.
THE CONTEST
You roster a team of players based on the number of home runs they hit in 2014.
You have a total of 210 homers to spend (based on 2014 totals).
You choose six infielders (any position).
You chose four outfielders.
Simple, easy & straight forward.
You choose your team and let 'er rip.
SCORING
Nothing overly fancy. In fact, just three categories matter.
Each Derby is based on 3 stats but weighted towards a main scoring stat (for example in Longball Derby, HRs = 5pts, RBIs = 1pt, Ks = -1).
You don't need spreadsheets. You don't need pages of rankings either. You don't have to worry about when to take a pitcher or how to use your reserve selections. We're only concerned with three basic categories listed above in this tournament and that's it.
MULTIPLE CHANCES TO WIN
Though you only draft your team once, there's a nice little bonus. Unlikely rotisserie scoring which is Game 1 through 162, Rotoderby resets the rankings every
month (kind of a hybrid style between season long and the daily game). That means if seven of your guys stink in April you lose in April. But, if that same group of mashers goes bonkers the rest of the way you still have five chances to win.
There are six scoring periods - one per month.
Each month the standings reset.
There are six monthly chances to win.
There are seven winners winners to be crowned (don't forget the overall winner) with a prize pool of $1,000.
The best part?
IT'S FREE.
