Pete Crow-Armstrong MLB Chalkboard Fantasy Pick: Over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Pete Crow-Armstrong earned his second straight All-Star selection on Saturday, capping off an outstanding first half of the season. The Chicago Cubs outfielder has been one of baseball’s most productive hitters, posting a .907 OPS that’s tied for 6th in the majors. He’s in a favorable matchup to stay hot in today’s matchup. 

St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Matthew Liberatore has struggled throughout the season. He enters with a 5.33 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. He’s allowed four or more runs in six of his last nine starts, while posting a 6.64 ERA during this stretch. Liberatore has also had issues on the road, with a 5.24 ERA away from home. 

Meanwhile, Crow-Armstrong has been locked in at the plate for a while now. Over his last 30 games, he’s hitting .397 with a 1.285 OPS while consistently producing extra-base hits and multi-hit performances. The Cubs’ star has also excelled against left-handed pitching, batting .292 with an .867 OPS in the split. 

As for Liberatore, he’s allowing a .296 batting average and .909 OPS to left-handed batters. Crow-Armstrong can take advantage of this matchup. He’s also hitting better at Wrigley Field, with a .319 average and 1.006 OPS at home. It also helps that he’s 3-for-10 with a pair of doubles against Liberatore across their careers. 

Cade Cavalli MLB Chalkboard Fantasy Pick: Over 5.5 Strikeouts

Cade Cavalli grabbed headlines this past week for more than one reason. The Washington Nationals’ right-hander received a seven-game suspension for his role in a bench-clearing incident with the Red Sox. Yet, he also delivered his best performance of the season with 13 strikeouts in the outing. 

As he takes the mound on Sunday while appealing the suspension, there’s a strong case for Cavalli to rack up strikeouts again. The matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates is an attractive one. Pittsburgh has been one of baseball’s most strikeout-prone lineups against right-handed pitching lately. 

The Pirates have a 28.2% strikeout rate over the past week against righties, which is the third-highest mark in the MLB. The trend extends over a larger sample as well. They have a 25.8% strikeout rate vs. right-handers over the past month, also the third-highest in the league. 

Cavalli can capitalize on this matchup. He’s carrying a 25.7% strikeout rate this season, while his 10.16 K/9 rate is a notable jump from last year. The righty has six or more strikeouts in 6 of his last 9 starts, and he’s reached seven or more Ks in seven of his last 13 outings. He can pile up strikeouts once more in this spot.
